Remington has used a U as a head stamp for decades. It probably got mixed in with the Rem head stamps. Someone will likely chime in on dates and locations of different head stamps. I'm not diverse on those details.

Ohhh so just a little manufacturing slip and nothing to worry about. just started using ammo from remington so found it odd. Thank's for the answer :)

It seems odd that all the rounds from the case would not have the same head stamp....
Yes, to the above.

While it is true that the "U" headstamp was once heavily used at Remington (as Rem. was once owned by U.M.C.) one has to wonder if the case of ammo mentioned in the original post was a recent production case of Remington 22lr? What recent Remington production would use the "U" headstamp? I'm seeing mostly if not all "Rem." headstamps?

Probably a old time employee found it stuck in his boot from years ago and tossed it into the current run to f with us. You got it.

f=fun.
When I was stationed in Korea last time, you couldn't buy Miller High Life at the Class Six (on base liquor store), so I would get Miller Genuine Draft...one of the cases I bought had a can of High Life. No idea how that would get mixed in. with MGD, but I hit the jackpot with that one can. Hehe

Miller used to be the #1 beer here in CNY. They had a big factory up in Fulton,NY that employed a lot of people with great paying jobs and bennys. Plus you got a couple free cases a week of "over production". When they shut down you woudn't dare be caught in a check out line with a Miller product. Budweiser still has a big factory here. (or brewery) But it's just beer. After the 3rd one who cares. :LOL:
