Now, I know Tru-Oil is what everybody recommends for stock finishing. And it says on the bottle "ages without yellowing". But I can't help but notice that any drips that ran down the outside of the bottle, over the pure white label, are pee yellow. So is it really clear, or does it yellow? Of all of the many bottles (dozens) I have used, the liquid was yellow/brown to start with
It has a slight brown/yellow cast, but does not darken with age like BLO does, even though it does contain some BLO. I like how it looks on my stocks. Here's a few done several years ago:

I’ve used many ounces of Truoil and I can tell you this from my own experience. It will change the color of light colored woods. Another thing, good or bad, it will dry to a glossy finish, if it is allowed to set on the surface of the wood. Over time it seems to turn to a semi gloss. If you’re wanting a clear finish, use lacquer or shellac, they are clear as water.
Myself, I prefer the stock finished in Truoil. You can dull the finish by using different methods, mentioned in this form. The main thing to using these methods is giving the finish a month or so to cure.

Yeah, I was thinking most people put it over a dark wood finish, so how would you know if it went yellow? I wouldn't want to use it over a nice blue finish and have it go green(ish)
And most of the finishes I sand to a matte finish, just my preference.

The gloss finish is easily brought to satin by lightly rubbing with a Mr. Clean magic eraser pad, dry. It leaves no visible scratches. Here is a stock on my Mauser I did with Tru-Oil and the magic Eraser pad:

Every oil finish I ever saw had a yellow tinge to it because of the oil. If you want a true clear finish you have to use lacquer. I think what the manufacturer means is that it will not darken with age not that it is clear to begin with.
Like most oil based finishes Truoil has an amber cast to it and there isn't much way around that. When you put any finish on a wood it will bring out the true color of the wood plus add a bit of color from the finish also. Try this- put some water on a stock and observe the color of the wood, then put a drop or two of truoil on the same wood and rub it in. I think you'll see the color is very close to the same on most woods.
I did an experiment on a stock I finished last year. I had a piece of fiddleback maple that I wanted to come out as light as possible . I sealed the stock with water based Polyurethane several coats and let it dry. I would have stopped there as it came out very light, but I could never get the finish I wanted so I sanded it down and put several coats of Truoil over the Polyurethane and it remained very light. I will try to post a picture of this stock so you can see how it looks and decide for yourself if this is what you are looking for or you want a more traditional amber hue.

And here is a stock I did for a friend of mine for a Kimber 84 223 with wood from the same tree using only Truoil
