While looking for a .22 sporter I ran across a new old stock Cooper 57m TRP3 for $2,000. It has the green composite/synthetic stock and stainless bull barrel. The shop has had it for a while and is looking to move it. It has been on display and handled but still looks close to new. I like to shoot paper with my .22’s but do not have a pure benchrest gun. Is that a good price or has anyone else seen these being discounted? I do not see that model on the website. Any feedback on that exact model would be appreciated. Thanks!

Given what Coopers are going for these days that price may be considered reasonable, if 1) it is in fact like new, and 2) it has a wood stock that is better than a "plain jane". If the stock is well above average -- color and figure -- I would definitely consider it a reasonable price. In any case, pics would help. And if the dealer is hot to move it, you may be able to do a bit better.

Good price for a nice rifle. Gunbroker is usually a pretty good place to see value and there are a couple used on there for more than your price. Cooper version of a Benchrest, better than the wood "hunter" styles for that. They were offered with a 1/2" MOA at 100yds guarantee (for whatever that is worth now). With Cooper folding into NightHawk hopefully parts will still be available for the 57M. The 57m was introduced in 2001 and the TRP3 in 2009. I am sure a Cooper expert will have more info if I do not have the correct info.

The TRP is still a 57M, but a target version in a single-shot action, with a heavy barrel and stock designed for BR shooting. They have/had a reputation for excellent accuracy.

Both of my Coopers, a JSR and a Montana Varminter came nowhere near duplicating the "proof" targets.
A couple of guys in the BR competitions told me there are better BR rifles.
However, with ample testing of ammunition and decent optics it would be a good starter.
Having worked in a LGS, when the "BOSS" said an offer was less than his cost it was a gimmick . . . ask to see their cost and if they are telling the truth . . . pay the $2000. Be careful how you word your challenge . . . it he is not telling the truth . . . his cost or $2000 whichever is less . . . deal.

I sold my lamnated stock TRP-3 for $2200 about a year ago. However, It had 2 oz. Jard trgger, Harrell tuner and had been pillar and glass bedded.
