My spotting scope came in the mail today:t

I opened it up and was happy with what I saw:

For photography I have been using an old tripod that has been in my family longer than I have, and it doesn't really belong to me. So I am in the market for a new tripod.

I have been giving thought to this neat little one:

I have a feeling it might not be as steady as the good old fashioned style though.

Does anyone have any experience with these or others? Advice?

I have a Slik U8000 tripod that I got from Ritz Camera for photography, it wasn't very expensive and works fine for my needs.

That looks like a beautiful stand! However I can't see the Freeland stands working very well out in the bush.

I plan on using the scope for hunting and for bench work. The versatility is what attracted me to the GorillaPod, although it isn't very tall.
