I thought I'd try some different ammo in my 983S 22 Mag. I have tried just about every 30 & 34 grain ammo on the market in this rifle and all I got for my trouble were shotgun pattern groups. This rifle really prefers the 40gr stuff, or so I thought until I tried some Hornady 30gr V-Max. Wow! What a difference! I had one 3 shot group at 100 yards that was under 1" with 2 of those touching each other. A head shot on a rabbit at 100 yards is reality now! I don't have a chrono, but it gets down range noticabley faster than any of the 40gr stuff I had been using. I'm going to order some more real soon!

Thanks for the heads up, I'm currently testing ammo in my new 983. I haven't tried any 30 gr yet but I will pick some up.

This isn't the first post I've seen touting the accuracy of this round. I'll definitely have to give it a try.

Every gun is different. My 883 didn't care for any of the 30 Gr. bullets I tried including the Hornady V-Max but has a strong preference for the Federal Game Shok 50 Gr. #757.

However, I sure can't argue with a 1" 3 shot group at 100 yds. I hope to do that well 'some day'. In the meantime, the rifle can outshoot me.

I can't get the hornaday rounds to group worth a poot. MY 22mag loves Armscor and Winchester 40 gr. Hp's. Any 30 gr. goes all over in it.

10 shots - Hornady V-Max 30gr. @ 50 yards with a Marlin 783 using a cheap Bass Pro Redhead 3-9x32 scope. Anything else was over 3". I'm sold on the V-Max.
