Trainer Questions...

Two questions about the trainer:

1. Can you easily add a scope to the trainer and still keep the front site in place?

2. Can a suppressor be attached without affecting the front site?

Thanks...lawstudent

Law Student,
Although I have never added a scope, I believe it can be done, with tall rings, but the type of scope (size in diameter and length) must be able to clear the rear site. At that height, the front site should not be a problem. The drop on the stock is not the best set-up for a scope mount.... it just depends on your shooting position. Having said all that, more experienced members or visitors will provide the detailed response you're looking for...

Don't know about the supressor.

I'm going from memory (scary) - but, weren't you considering a Taurus Tracker Model 970 at one time? If so, did you pick one up?
Shooter 357:

Thanks for the info. Sorry, I have always been interested in the CZs. Is the next least expensive CZ rifle the American?
The shape and length of the scope is important. I was able to mount a Simmons 1048 6.5-20x44AO on my Special with BKL rings by putting the objective bell in front of the rear sight base. I could not do the same with the shorter Bushnell Sportview 4-12x40AO. You can remove the rear sight which works for scopes short enough to fit behind the rear base.

Your other option is to go with high or extra high rings or mounts. The old scope adapters I made added about 1/2" to the receiver top and made it possible to entirely clear the sight base with high rings.
Prices vary

Law Student,
Prices must depend on many factors that are beyond my understanding. For instance, some are paying in excess of $250 for an Ultra Lux, while others are buying them for $199. I paid $179 for my Special. I'm thinking seriously about the Ultra so that my son and I can shoot side by side at the range. I've never priced an American though. Since I'm not as concerned about 1/2" accuracy @ 50 yards, I get by fine with iron sites on the Special.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a CZ, regardless of model.
Law student, I just put a Tasco 4-16x50AO on mine. I went to Wally world and bought a set of Weaver see-through grooved receiver rings and it is JUST BARELY able to clear the rear sight base. As was mentioned earlier, that "Hog back" comb makes it difficult to get a good cheek weld :( I'm trying to figure some way to build up a cheek piece on mine.

Law student;
You can take that front sight hood off and the front sight blade out too. It gets them out of the way at least. At the time I have an old Weaver K8 on mine with a 32mm objective lens. It's mounted on with Kwik-Site non- see through mounts that sit fairly low. The objective lens is forward of the front sight base and has enough clearance so that I could leave the rear sight on (it looks ugly with that rear sight blade out). The bolt handle still clears the scope good. Before this I had an old Weaver K3 then a Redfield 2.75X. These are all old scopes that I have laying around but anyting with a small objective lens has fit it well without having to use rings that are overly tall. The objective lens has to also be in front of or behind the rear sight base. The hogback stock, I've found, isn't the best for a scope but it's not that bad either. I just got this rifle in January and I've enjoyed it a lot.
Hope this pic posts okay.

Unless you can see the following view(which means you're in CHCH,NZ where all the CZ's come threaded for a mod with a knurled thread cover and it will not affect the front sight), you shouldn't be asking about a suppressor. If you are, you can buy a nice Parker Hale for it at the great gun shop on Papanui Rd for next to nothing.

If you're not and in the U.S, you should check in your law library to see if you live in a state that allows you to possess one even after you've jumped through the hoops and paid the $200 Federal tax for a stamp to possess it.
