Are production dates coded into the s/n? I have a TOZ-35 with 2 letters and 2 numbers. Every other one I've seen (and I've seen plenty) is 3 letters, 3 numbers; and I'm curious as to its age?

yes...the 1st two digits are the year..example 04...85236..made in 04 serial follows..your manual will give date made or accepted for use:bthumb:
