Just bought the Wal-mart special. Love it!!
Use the gun for plinking only.
If i'm Just plinking would I have more fun whith a scope or not? If I did add a scope it would not be anything expensive. I would rather buy another gun the buy an expensive scope, since I'm just plinking.

Well, i put on a 3-9x40 tasco scope on my rifle for about ~$70 (with base and some nice rings) It sure makes it fun for me. I dont plan on being in competition, so glass that costs more than the rifle was way out of the question. You can always remove the scope if you dont like it, then if ya change your mind, a few screws and its back :) but you will love it.
Also, have u thought about a reddot? that would be interesting

Go for the scope...! !

Vegas,

Congratulations on your new "Wal*Mart" 'Special' 10/22-22 Rifle...! ! :)

It is a very nice package, especially with the larger 'man sized' checkered stock...! ! :)

Go for the scope, and you'll never look back....! ! :D

May I suggest that you look at the "Simmons" line of '22 Mag' scopes:
0 Inexpensive
0 Good quality
0 Small & compact [28mm & 32mm]
0 4x and 3-9X Models
0 Focused for rimfire ranges [60 yards]
0 Matte and Silver finishes
0 Rings supplied with scope
0 Usually run ~ $50. to $60. at Mail Order houses like "Midway" and "Natchez".
0 The 1022T [3-9X 32mm AO] runs about $120. less rings[top of '22 Mag' line].

Avoid the 'Mart' type scopes, as they are for centerfire rifles ["DeerGetter"] and are focused for 100 to 150 yards; at normal rimfire ranges, you will have +/- 1/2" of parallax or more....! ! :(

"Simmons": http://www.simmonsoptics.com/

"Midway": http://midwayusa.com/

"Natchez": http://www.natchezss.com/

Hope this helps....! ! :)

I suggest a red dot too.

Otherwise, go with some rimfire 4x. Bushnell makes one for
rimfire usually at Walmart. The Simmons someone mentioned
should work too. Reason I say 4x, is other than long range
target shooting 4x is plenty for rimfire. And if you are going
with cheaper scopes, there is less to go wrong with a fixed
versus a variable.

I bought a simmons .22 mag scope. It drifted off when tapped very lightly with my hand. I sent it back. They said they fixed it and sent it back to me. It still drifted off when tapped very lightly. I sent it back and told them to send me a new one. They did. It still drifts off. Also the adjustments don't work very well.
I read in a magaizine where someone wrote that if you have to turn 1 click at a time and tap the adjustment then the scope is junk and a better one is needed. I agree. And with this simmons sometimes I could turn 3 or 4 clicks and the point of aim still would not change. Also, a buddy says his simmons .22 mag drifts off too. I went back to using my weaver d4 4x rimfire scope and I'm saving for a leupold compact rimfire.

My dad was frustrate because he couldnt hit a rbbit with his .22. For an Xmas present I got his gun and had red dot installed on his .22 and he cant stop hitting them out to 50 metres and a bit further. When your used to shotguns and decide to use a .22 at age 50, the red dot solved his crisis. if that helps so be it.:D :D :cool:

My simmons .22 mag was made in china.
I was thinking of replacing it with a weaver 2x-7x rimfire but the address location for weaver I'm pretty sure was the same place I sent my simmons for repair. Consequently, I'm sticking with my approximately 30 year old weaver 4x D4 that's stamped U.S.A and has NEVER drifted off line. The reason I'm looking for a new scope is the weaver D4 is not bright and has fine crosshairs that can't be seen in low light.

I absolutly refuse to buy anymore cheap scopes! It is nothing but frustrating trying to use them. I gave all mine away. All I have now is Leupolds, Nikon, Redfield, Weaver. Of all them the best hunting scope I have is the Leupold 3-9X 33mm EFR Which has Adjustable objective. Best .22 hunting scope made for the woods. For the open country, my Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X would be hard to beat.

Went with a Simmons 3x9x32 scope.
T-09 scope mounting rail & some
weaver see thru rings.
Everything is great except for the T-09 scope mounting rail. It nullifies (can not see) the rear iron site so the see thru rings are useless. My buddy has some see thru rings that mount right to the reciever with no rail. They look nice, have a bigger see thru hole & work. Any comments on theres types of mounting rings?
