Tippmann M4-22 Trigger Compatibility

Went to the range with a bag of triggers to test them out. I have the Tipmman M4-22 PRO Gen 2. I used CCI Standard Velocity. 50 rounds each trigger.

Here are the triggers and their results:
Timney MPX Trigger: Didn't Work, trigger was interfering with the safety.
Timney AR-15 Comp: Worked, no issues
AR Gold (non-adjustable): Worked, no issues
HiPerFire Competition: Worked, with one jam

I had the opportunity to run the Elftman, but figured I would save time as it's already been done successfully.

The only trigger that couldn't be successfully installed was the Timney MPX. The area of the trigger that interfaces with the safety was to tall, preventing the safety from being installed. I had it and figured why not, a little confused as to why it didn't work because I though it was compatible with AR-15s.

The only trigger that had an issue cycling was the HiPerFire Competition. It was a failure to feed, the bullet got stuck between the bolt and barrel, almost like the bullet wasn't seated in the magazine correctly. This happened around round 25, and ran fine for the rest of the test.

That being said, I thought the HiPerFire Comp ran the best. It reset faster than all of the other triggers, and therefore follow up shots were much quicker.

The reason for these tests? We'll I have been running an M&P 15-22 for a while now. I have it setup almost identically to my 3-Gun AR. The only part of the gun that isn't identical is the stock, I run an Ace ARFX (I know, I'm old school) on the 3-Gun AR and unfortunately the M&P 15-22 isn't compatible. My plan is to take the Tippman M4-22 all the way, but before I dump all that money into the gun, I wanted to make sure I wasn't limited on trigger options. Seems like I am not.

I used CCI Standard Velocity because I have had great success with the reliability of this ammo out of all my guns, pistol or rifle.

I ran 50 rounds with each trigger, didn't have all day and ammo isn't cheap like it used to be.

I recently ordered the Timney Daniel Horner Signature 2-Stage, so that will get tested next, next weekend if it's here in time and the weather is nice. It's going to be interesting to see if this works as it's MPX compatible, and that's the one trigger that couldn't be installed. I have high hopes for this trigger and really want to make it my new comp trigger, but if this fails, I'll get a Trigger Tech Diamond Single Stage. I want that 1.5 lbs life BOI.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading. If you have any triggers you want to see tested, let me know and I'll see if I can get my hands on it.

Very helpful thread. Seems like you prefer two stage.

How about a single, like the ELF SE ?
Sounds like an excellent value with much improved performance over the stock trigger.
Looking forward to hearing if thr Timney Damiel will run.

The Tt diamond won't work in a 22 if it's doen around that 1.5mark. It won't reset. I had to run mine around 2.3lbs to get it to work. Timney clavin elite at 1.5lbs has worked in every 22ar I have tried it in. Seems to be the best ans lightest one out there.
Back to the range today. Same criteria as original post. Tippmann M4-22 Gen 2. 50 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity.

Elftmann ELF-SE: Worked, no issues
Timney Daniel Horner 3: Didn't Work: Disconnector hook hits a "cross-member" in the upper receiver (as seen in pictures below)

I must say, I was pretty impressed with the ELF-SE. For the money, it's a dang good trigger, and competes with others I have shot up in the $200-$300 territory. Having shot an AR-22 with the ELF 3 GUN extensively, I'd say save the extra $100 and buy the SE instead, it's that good.

The DH3 being incompatible with the M4-22 probably isn't the end of the world as not too many people are willing to spend half of what their gun costs on a trigger. I was very bummed out as I had high hopes to make this my new go-to comp trigger.

I think we learned something here, be very weary of triggers that have anything protruding above the top of the lower receiver behind that hammer, as there is a good chance it will have the same issue the DH3 does.

Has anyone tried the Geissele SSA-E trigger in the M4-22 (serial > 20k)? I have these G triggers in my regular AR's, considering putting one in the Tippmann as a trainer.
I have this on in my M4-22 Elite. It came from Tippmann so it works as expected.

Is it installed with factory selector, or an aftermarket selector?

My ideal setup would be: Geissele SSA-E + Radian Talon safety selector

I'm sorry, I forgot to post the link to what I have. It is the Elftmann on the Tippmann website, with the factory selector.

Sorry for the confusion, here is the link.

I wonder if the CMC 2.5 lb drop in will work? I have it in 4 of my AR-15s.

Yes. It works in mine with zero issues after about 450 rounds. I had bought a CMC for my new M4-22, as I run CMCs in two M&P AR15-22's.

The factory Tippmann Hammer broke on shot #9 of the M4, so I changed to the CMC much sooner that planned. Flawless performance since, shooting some Eley Benchrest but mostly CCI SV.

Please do me a favor, on the side of CMC hammers are some numbers, (date code) What is yours?

I have two older units, both pre 2015 and they have issues in post 20k Tippmanns. (I have 4 lowers) Heard rumor they changed the hammer slightly and newer unit like yours work great.

Thanks in advance.
I got the Elftmann Match pro trigger (curved) directly from them and recommended for the M4-22.

Love the trigger, easy to install, and I agree it's the best trigger I've experienced in an AR-type rimfire.

For full disclosure, I've had 2 issues though:
  1. The washers that came with the trigger were oversized and would not fit into the cutout on the RIGHT side of the Tippmann receiver. Elftmann acknowledges this issue and says the washers were recently changed by the manufacturer and need to be resized. So be aware of that if you buy this trigger, today. I dremeled the washer on the right side and got it to fit, so that works. Also, Elftmann sent me some small locking plates that replace the washers, that's a better solution with no dremel work required. :p
  2. Repeated, sporadic light primer strikes. This is with a variety of good, normally reliable ammo that runs in all my rimfires. Including just-purchased CCI mini-mags and SV. Getting a light strike or two about every 50 rounds. I thoroughly cleaned and inspected my bolt, that wasn't the issue. Still working on resolving this one, Elftmann just shipped me some heavier hammer springs, so possibly that is the issue.

hello, any reviews about HiPerFire PDI on tippmann m4 22 ?

I have used 2 different PDI triggers in 2 different post 20k M4-22s (elite and micro) and have not had any issues. Nice deep hits on the primers and bolt cycling feels normal. Nice triggers in my opinion.
Resilient Arms also carries the Elftmann (at a great price I may add) although I prefer TriggerTech but both triggers are great. What you get with Resilient Arms is support, similar to Tippmann. You can call us anytime with questions or support on getting your trigger or other add-on installed.

Options:
Elftmann AR-15 Match Drop-In Trigger Straight - Resilient Arms (resilient-arms.com)
TRIGRTECH AR15 COMP CRVD RH - Resilient Arms (resilient-arms.com)
Hi Guys, somebody try the rise armament RAVE 140 trigger on the Tippmann ? thks

So do you think just about any drop in A.R. 15 trigger will work in this rifle?
works perfect
easy to install, perfect adjustment
