WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Another day at the daughter’s house.
Hide the candy and carbs!!
Its snowing @ the Heikki Lunta Fest in Negaunee but not a drop here @ 19ºF. Stop by if'n ya want to try the luge hill. Last year one person came all the way from Tabai to give it a whirl.
I thought you were speaking in tongues there but spent some time with Mr. Bing looking up all that undecipherable drivel, found out it's actually real. Giving you an A+ for posting the most mysterious reply of the day. 😏

It 39° and partly cloudy so partly a chance of more winter weather seeing it’s GH day. Read a post earlier this morning which now seems to be removed and it was regarding the environment and shopping staffs verbal opinions going back and forth with a customer. Usually the practice IME when shopping is not having to be subjected to grumpy staff, but there exceptions to that, and there are options whereas one can just not go to that clerk at the checkout counter next time you’re in that store. Wall clock in the kitchen finally gave up the ghosts so a replacement is on its way via amabalazon plus some other why not goodies. Back into the man cave to complete the reloading process that was momentarily suspended until the additional reloading tools had arrived, that plus I had expended a bunch more than usual last time out so they could be reloaded with new tools. Now’s the time I need a bougie annealing tool but that too will pass. The call to shoot single gun pistol matches this month is great even though I would use a PCC, but trying to stay true to wanting to focus more on long guns and long range shooting and/or multigun events. Two completely different venues ie one gun at short ranges, and the focuses are different. Having shot years of one gun pistol matches at short distances it’s time to shift gears and focus upon my more desired interests once again. Do I want to shoot Bench Rest Or F Class? No because that is too much of a focused venue whereas it’ll take a huge investment of resources just to begin with or even to just test the waters.

It's warmed to freezing and we are now at that crystalline stage where a ¼" twig has a dia. over ½" w/clear ice coating. Were the sun to come out, the scenery would be magnificent from the refractions bedazzling everything. Good possibility we'll see some of that during tomorrow's melt.

We just had the last two bowls of the bride's chicken soup for brunch. Can sense a grilled cheese mid-afternoon followed by a rather late dinner of some sort.

Looking forward to tomorrow's promised sunshine and ice melt kick off regardless of what that imposter Phil, the whatever iteration(?) groundhog did or didn't see. And selling folks the ID of six more weeks of winter is just depressing, whether it turns out to happen or not. I'd rather think of April's showers and flowers... and the renewal of things, like a good crappie bite and I'd like to spend a day or two dunkin' brush piles for 'em w/minners this spring on a coupla nearby lakes, when the bite starts. Meantime, there is a GS taking place at Will Rogers in Ft. Worth 2/11 & 12 and I may just drive over on Saturday and do a walk thru just because. It's always been my fav. show. Sunday, the 12th, will be doin' the Super Bowl at a friend's place. This Sunday will be at the club, blastinating. The kinda groundhogs we have around here are called developers. Ain't got much use for either of 'em. One's a varmint, t'other's... carpetbaggers & scallywags, for the most part. 😇😁

Ten years ago I would have loved to try the Luge run. At over 200 pounds I could likely get some speed up but two broken ankles coming to an abrupt stop doesn’t sound all that fun anymore.

'Heikki Lunta Fest in Negaunee'

I had to look it up as well.

Found a funny pic of a past poster that had an arrow and said 'Ko-Tis-Vay'

Real men go down the run head first. :pinocchio:

Tis a snappy wind @ 11ºF and dropping. Library window is frizzen shut again... better than open eh?
Finn's bud stopped by with her new Suby that looks like a Honda, like a Mazda, etc etc etc IMO. Road slop is hard frozen also and her new bucket of bolts looks like it came off the showroom floor. I'd wash the truck like Dlong said I should but my windows etc would be frozen up also.

Haircut soon.

As long as there is sufficient weight ie a force to overcome the resisting force of friction, there’s a good chance of going pretty darn fast whilst lugeing. 🤔

Took a while but finally got the interior of the tuna boat dried out stemming from the leaking windshield. Thank goodness for not having to deal with below freezing temperatures.

It’s s been about twelve years since tobogganing with the kids. Kids had been making the run for weeks, I extended the run to stop on the next street where the opposite bank stopped the run.

Enough of that after back ached for a week after. Thirty six years prior to that I had given up the toboggan when my buddy was stopped abruptly with a stick up the you know what. He left a blood trail and a little something for the Skwerls that day as well🤓

Our resident Groundhog is out now,no shadow. However had he been out at noon he would have,it was nice & sunny then, but cold.
Temp dropped to 8º and wind was gusting round 40mph and maybe faster per big poofs of wind driven snow flying as fast as the traffic on the bypass while I was stopped @ a light. Gas bill alert! Finn said my cut was a bit short but no amount of hair on my noggin will keep it warm out thar pards. Time to dig out the gray fox cranial warmer.

Howdy all! TGIAF

Shivering some this morning, were ya, Rhody? :D:giggle:
Not too bad today wook, but tomorrow will be so cold that the politicians will have their hands in their own pockets!
Lookin' at wind chills in the area of -27°. 😳

Remember Bill Diblasio dropped the groundhog and it died? They changed the protocol because of that and now, no celebs can hold Phil up in the air!

They asked the mobster groundhog what he saw, and he answered, "I didn't see nuthin"!

5° with wind gusting from 20-39mph still. I’ve let the dogs out a few times today with no complaints of coming back in. Another successful day of never stepping outside.

Heard from a buddy in lake placid they are looking at minus 40 degrees tomorrow. I think we’ll be down by zero. Got an email from the gas company that gas is going down 23%.
TGIT! I have tomorrow off. I looked a head a while back and decided that staying home on a cold day beats going to work.

Stopped at my sisters after work, she needed a drill bit that doesn't fit her drill and I needed a package picked up from the part time post office. Well, I pulled up to her house and spotted the flat tire on her trusty, rusty, steel chariot. Rutrow. Kinda chilly tonight, going to be minus something tomorrow before the wind in the teens.

Went home, czeched my 12 gallon air tank, it had a charge, turned on my air compressor, it started w/o blowing a breaker as it will when it is really cold. Decided I should take the tank over to my sisters and put air in her tire to see what I'm dealing with. Hit close on the garage door, it closed, it opened, I grabbed onto a panel and helped it close, it stayed closed.

Where are my gloves? I just brought them in from the car, maybe in garage, can't find them. Close garage door, keeps opening, used remote to turn it off at just right moment. Grabbed some thin protective over gloves that protect the insulated gloves when working on things that might be live electrically. Not much but better than nothing. Run over to sisters, put 28 psi in the tire and stopped and listened. Didn't hear anything but that doesn't mean much. Go home.

Fill tank back up with air, look for gloves, close door, close door, close door from inside and see that things are bending, shorten the door link to compensate, close door, door closes 1.5" open. Look for screwdriver to adjust limits. Close door, works fine, close door works fine. Accidentally open other door twice, it is normally the problem child in winter, it works fine. I'm being mocked by my possessions.

Call sister, asked if the tire has air a half hour later, yes, have her text me in another hour, still has air. Tomorrow should be an easy lift, I hope. Full air tank in car, may have to snow blow at sub zero if we get any more snow.

Tried to tell SSA when to send me money, website said not tonight. I'll try again tomorrow during business hours and do a follow up on my pension paperwork.

Yesterday was a long long day. Had to get up early to get the cats took care of and then take a shower and get ready to go pick up Be for the trip to the Big City. She had a early morning doctor appointment just after her mother so I had to meet them in town. Actually the cornea specialist was even further south than Birmingham, she was in Shelby county out Highway 280. We stopped at Subway and split a footlong tuna sub so I belched tuna all afternoon, argh. We got the hospital and located the office one of the big POBs. Examination showed that the cornea of her eye was healed but showed scar tissue, so the doc prescribed some steroid drops. She plugged the tear drains with tiny silicone plugs so the tears would stay in the eye longer instead of draining away to help avoid a dry eye. Vision in that eye is still extremely limited though so the retinal issue hasn't resolved as of yet.

Back to Cullman 75 miles to pick up prescriptions and on to to a grocery run. It had been cold and windy all day but started raining by afternoon so I had to unload stuff in the rain. She had bought ingredients for spaghetti so we all had that for supper last night. I ended up staying over there ungil 1 A.M. Light rain and foggy on the way back to my house and saw deer multiple times so had to drive ultra cautiously. Nothing but time on my hands anyway, drive slowly and enjoy the music.

Today was forty something degrees and rain all day long and still coming down tonight. Perfect sleeping weather. I was shot after yesterday anyway. Pile up in bed with multiple feline heaters and sack out!

Seems like things alway eff up when the weather is bad. Why can't they break when it's nice out? No such luck!
