WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

The old blue and the new blue look fine to me Wook, still gets me that some think its okay to limit other folks expressions, words best served in person come to mind. There's a lot said and done here that I've no use for but I believe others have a right to their own thoughts and actions.

Good morning all!

I just ran across something regarding membership fees. If you are signed up for your membership to be automatically renewed and paid more than the current $20 fee, you will be billed the old higher rate automatically unless you cancel your subscription. Your membership will continue until the expiration date and resigning up will be at the current price. I know that I paid $40 in December for the “Bronze” level. Gold and Silver were much higher. I would hate to think of someone continuing to pay $100 or more for a level that no longer exists. From what I understand, it’s a flat $20 fee for membership. Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up in case there are any signed up to auto renew their memb

Thanks, Brent!! You saved me some green there. Now, I just have to remember to re-up in November before this current on runs out. :D

We’ve had about thirty inches of snow since the announcement of Spring now, stop!

Yesterdays Easter ham was a hit cooked in the Dutch oven. Of course everything is good cooked in my 120+ year old cast iron. I found it setting atop a fence post and drug it home fifty years ago while helping dad track a buck he hit.
It warmed up to around 45° yesterday and had the pups out in the sun for a little play time. Son and I worked off our meal with 10-15 miles of biking. It was nice to get out. He tried one of the local trails with my Gary Fisher Fat Possum until the trail ended with downed trees. I’ll be walking sections of trail this week with the saw cleaning up downed trees and limbs from recent ice/wind storms preparing for real Spring this week. Volunteered son and my help with the local trail network group to help out. Pretty much three people are taking care of the hundreds of miles of backwoods single track while thousands enjoy them. Plans in place to have connectors for the entire trail system in next few years are being authorized by the DNR. We will have world class trails and become a destination place for mountain bike riders.

Didn’t we used to get a notice when the membership was about to expire? At least I think I did and that was when I re-uped.
It was my fastest disappearing Last eva!

An Admin Curmudgeon from the past called it drivel! She was the closest I ever came to a timeout or worse... that I know of. 😇

That is an interesting bit of history Al! I can't imagine you being a thorn in anyone's side....your star just shone too brightly for her, it's the only explanation :p

Good Morning RFC'rs, et al:

Loads of left overs to eat.
Trying this lighter shade of blue. Will see whot the dark moder's say. It may be not so hard to read & provide better contrast. Call it a trial balloon. New site does not have the old font I preferred as an option. This one is okay, just not as light-hearted. the other was 'comic'.

I 'm on the dark side and can see you again wook.(y)

Now Easter Sunday was a right good day, today is lookin' pretty rainy...
Shopping today for milk and leftover Easter candy (y)

Went down to the river. Pix were taken, planes and goosies being the most predominant.
No eagles but we saw our first osprey of the season. That makes two different parks now we've been lucky enough to see 'em.

Ordered another camera... It's been a year or so since the last one :)
Used, excellent condition, Nikon D810. Got it for 1/3 the cost of a new camera...
Thankfully I've got lenses & other stuff.

HAPPY 40TH ANNAVERSARY, Mr. & Mrs Sihler!

It's a cooler 57° early spring temp this morning w/light filtered thru a high elevation thread-worn blanket. Mid-week chances of rain have been revised & reduced by the weasels. Now, according to them it's gonna be rainy and very windy for the coming weekend. Shooting registered skeet in cool or cold wet weather has never been anything I found rewarding, tho I've done it often enough thru the years. Looking like I made the correct call, in thinking to sit this one out.

On hams cooked in a slow cooker, we've done several with throwing the glaze pack away and then just pouring in a bottle of a favored BBQ sauce, either of the red or yellow down south types. One sauce that I like of the brownish/red type for that application is Head's©. It is a thin sauce w/a fine taste and less sugar to burn or clot. Sometimes I'll do that with a corned beef brisket w/o using the seasoning packet that is supplied with them and they really turn out nice for some tender and lean eating. If there is a thick rind on those corned beef brisket cuts and hams too, I remove it when cooking them in that manner. I prefer to buy the 'flat cut' rather than the 'point cut' variety for corned beef. Spiral cut hams can be done in a slow cooker as well, but they tend to sorta self-dismantle and can be messy trying to remove them whole... at least that has been my experience. I've never used one of the assorted liners sold to be used in a slow cooker. Bon Ami™ and a little elbow grease cleans them right up, after letting them sit with some water and a squirt of detergent in them overnight.

Have walked the front & back with the bride to see whot's new this morning in the way of blooms. Coffee is aromatic and refreshing. This morn I used its restorative powers much as the Tin Man did a bit of oil in warming my inners and generally becoming mobile. It helped to get the cricks out. Intensity of light just increased. Errands and yard werk await. Later, I've some spent hulls to sort. Some will walk the plank, whilst others will pass muster for another go at breaking a target before their retirement.

Y'all have a great day.

E-4 Mafia never get lost Frank. We just leave a breadcrumb trail of empty beer cans and tequila bottles for quick egress back to the barracks 😎

Thanks,Wook. Picked a pot of Petunias for the Wife.
We are getting the trip-fecta of winter weather ,here ,in the Valley. Rain,Sleet and snow. Snow is building up on the grass and the roads are slush covered. EMS and Fire are responding to multiple crashes on the roads.
I,m home safe & warm. Will put out some seeds & such for the birds, thought I was done with that for the year.
Nice weather today. Rain tonight. Asked the roofers to hold off since the weather guessers are calling for rain from tonight, off and on until Friday.

Easter was nice. Good food, good company.

Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Sihler !

It started as a mix here, now mostly snow. Getting heavier with the green turning white, but not slushing the roads yet. Sidewalks froze over though.
Happy Anniversary, WS. 👍

LRS is a party of three with lots of 10pm plus wind. Started with the 6.5CM and managed two impacts on the 1000 yard silhouette target. Switch over to the .223 Wylde and eeked out an impact also on the 1000 yard target. Rest of the morning was spent with h .223 Wylde on all of the other LRS targets. Ending the day reshimming the scope on the .223 Wylde for just a smidgen more dial up travel. 🤔 Morning started off rather chilly then around noon warmed up and also became much more humid.

While resetting a few steel LRS targets, discovered someone between last Friday and today shot a hole through one of the 3/8” thick AR 500 steel targets on the 600 yard target line. Reported that to the front office and they’re reviewing the schedule records to try and narrow down who did the dirty and uncalled for deed.

Wook appreciate you revising your font color of choice. Makes it easier to enjoy your postings IMO. 👍
