WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Wook,

Notes from the Underground is some deep reading! When you get into the book please let me know what you think of the book?
Will do. Funny, but I too wanted to say Notes from the Underground when It's Notes from Underground. There is no 'the' in the title. I actually started reading it last night but lacked the energy to get very far. Fifteen pages is all I've read so far and some of that I read more than once. I figure to read the books purchased in the order I posted. This one shan't be blazed thru; the introspection being expressed requires some thot and letting the mind taste it, in a manner of speak, as he goes about eliminating the things discussed and touched on as possible motivators. That's the best I can do, so far and I've but scratched the surface.

What a day.

Breakfast was gud,...

Shotguns were fun. I shot well at first (y) and finished poorly. Se la vie.

The Officials could have saved a whole bunch of global warming jet fuel and called the Saints game from this side of the pond.
Pthuuy on 'em. Agree; spend the money here folks, if'n ya don't mind. Arsenal vs. Liverpool coming up a week from now, is more on their minds, over there.

Not feeling great today. Out of rhythm of sorts. I think I'll geaux lay down and take a nap.
Hope the nap has the desired effect. If not, call the Doc.'s that you can best discuss it with in the morning and run your symptoms past them. You don't want yer binnacle being sluggish or a hitch in yer 'geta long', Pard. We need ya healthy!

What’s the best way to get tree sap,
,blue spruce, off the car? Tree never dripped sap until recently.
Glad you got that solved. I can't speak to Blue Spruce, but here we have pecan sap and it's plenty nasty. The best thing for removing it is the same thing that nature uses, water! Most other things people try to remove it with just makes a bigger mess. May have to use some ellbow grease but it is water soluble and gentle pressure will remove it once loosened. The pecans here are sweating at present. Not fun, but not too big a deal if you don't make it worse than necessary.

The dinner you described having sounds great!

The day, it's been a memorable one, for me. Got the yard stuff tended to that was on my list early. Still hadn't loaded the 1oz loads for the Fun Shoot and wasn't inclined to switch out charge bar/bushing and powder from a time constraint perspective, so just put a shot bottle on the loader w/some reclaimed shot innit [mostly 7.5's & 8's] and loaded more ¾oz rounds to shoot for that. Got it done and we headed to the club arriving a bit later than planned but still in plenty of time to shoot. Turned out there were 40 something persons shooting the Fun Shoot! Good! Not all were playing the pot, but many did. I did. Pd. my money and sallied forth. Stuck to plan on the guns and chokes [MOD & IMOD] for the main event. It was 72 birds on the orange course, all report pairs. Shot it low gun and broke 67 scratch for 93%. That put me in the shoot off. It was late happening, so rather than staring at 2 P, it was closer to 3. Again, stuck to plan, changing guns to a Beretta 391 Super Sporting w/IMOD choke and factory AA's, thinking it would be held on a 5-stand, as it always had been. Nope, they changed it to true pairs on the orange course on station 13. Two dif. combos for four targets total. As folks got eliminated, it moved to station 12 and then 11 and then with just two of us left, it got moved to station 9 on the green course that was set with a pair of killer fast tower birds that had the humidity been higher might have left con trails. I had to shoot first, break the first target shot at and the 'link' in my gun breaks! Had my finger on the trigger and bbl. pointed up to prove it was a real malfunction. It wasn't questioned, but I didn't have a spare gun w/me and would have had to return to the clubhouse [about a mile] to get one, so ended up shooting my last pair w/a borrowed gun and broke them both, winning the event! That miss and out/shoot-off went thru 32 rounds! I had to get more shells from the truck after the first box was expended. Long story short, I got all my bait back plus enough surplus to pay for the breakfast, lunch, munchies, and a bottle of wine that the bride and her GF's consumed while I was cleaning and dismantling guns afterwards. Cleared the place w/an out-of-pocket expense of a five, rounding up a generous tip to the staff. Of course, it didn't cover the ammo cost or the new link I'll have to order, that will probably cost at least a Grant. Whot it did do, aside from stroke my ego, is validate that my vision is, in fact, much improved and that my friends, is priceless. Especially for an old goat that had been feelin' somewhat over the hill not that long ago.

Temp topped out at 84. It was warmish, but I never broke a sweat the entire day! Couldn't have been better and there were some big dogs in that shoot off that commented afterwards that they were having a good time watching me shoot. Toot toot(!); I be in tall cotton, boys. Can't wait to tell my eye Doc Tuesday when he does a routine follow-up. He will be getting the highest possible accolades from me.

I was most pleasantly surprised how well that reclaimed werked, until I remembered that it had come off the Army Bunker at Ft. Benning. Lots of almost undeformed hard Olympic games quality shot. It makes a significant difference in pattern
quality.

Need to do some ketchup, see who won whot, game wise, score wise, race wise. In the same breath, thinking to fix a proper restorative and conk. I'll figure it out shortly. The day, it's been quite a long one but I'm right proud to have had it.

Good Morning RFC'rs, et al:

Toil today, then shopping for 'Night Out Against Crime'.

Tomorrow I have to geaux get labs done again at the VA. They need to test my kidney function as they want to do a CT scan on my heart. They didn't see whatever they wanted to see in the sonogram stress test. If this doesn't work, they're going to send in a probe to get a first hand look.

My Charger 10/22 is in pieces on my bench, waiting on my attention.

A very pleasant sixty four degrees on the 'Murica scale. Keep that door open, Al.

David is in for a bit of rain, according to the radio, today. Left Overs of Ian. It should only be two to three inches.

Will do. Funny, but I too wanted to say Notes from the Underground when It's Notes from Underground. There is no 'the' in the title. It did indeed. Napped about an hour and a half. Awoke refreshed. Turned in early.
Docs are doing all they can.

That is spectacular news on the win. Congrats my friend. That's a big deal considering the class of shooters you hang with, and the courses you shoot.

'Ain't no such thing as a 'Perfectly Good Aeroplane'.
Back in the day I used to request a seat by the emergency exit, and carried on my reserve.
They won't let you do that anymore for some reason.
I don't fly anymore.

Of course, . . . , rotary wing aircraft are the worse. Even a parachute won't do you any good in one of those, unless your plummeting to the earth upside down, or lost the Jesus nut.

The seldom spoken of magic of borrowed and new guns goes something like this:

'A borrowed gun never misses, and a new gun never misses until after the cheque has cleared the bank.'

Thanks, all; it was big fun yesterday. Having sound rest the night before, nice weather w/good light and much improved clarity of vision all contributed to the day's success.

And adding to good news, I received a copy of the pathology/lab report that my plumbing doc got back and the way I read it, nothing removed showed signs of being
malignant or worth worrying about, tho I'll be hearing from her directly over the next few days confirming that.

And as the bronc riders are known to say as a way to signal opening the gate, "Let 'er buck!"

Yee Ha!

The rain stopped while sleeping. Up to 45* now, heading for 60* they say. Looks like the sun may appear in short intervals.
I slept well after yesterday’s long walk in the woods. A muscle relaxer may have helped as well as it’s still a little foggy out.
As soon as the coffee kicks in will be hunting up some grub from the local Aldi’s some fifty miles away. Better get the mule saddled!

Had a very busy week last week. Kept me offline for almost the entire week getting the house ready for my daughter's baby shower. This was the first time I've seen one of my brothers in person for over 2 years. We had 40 people over. Held the event in our backyard. Borrowed tables and chairs from friends and relatives, put up a 10' x 10' tent and 3 large umbrellas. We staged everything during the week, then did the setup Saturday morning. Took us about 4 hours to set up and take down. We still have some borrowed tables and chairs to return. The event was a success.

Missed out on falling plates match at the range yesterday. At least the shower is over and things should quiet down.

“Local” and 50 miles away shouldn’t be in the same sentence.

Fifty miles is local for many of the residents here. We just happen to live in one of the populous areas with businesses and industry to employ. I worked with many that were 120mile commute to work each day each way my 67 miles was mere pittance.
The local Aldi’s Corporate needs to do a cash register survey of customer zip codes and maybe realize another store is needed. If you’re sending trucks that far north why not deliver to a second or third store. The customer base is further than they know!
I've never tried it before, but ordered a Big 45 pad to try on a few small rust spots on the 69A I got last week.
They wanted $6.95 plus $2.50 shipping for one pad. Or $12.00 for two with free shipping. I splurged and ordered two. Ordered them on Friday 3 days ago coming from Sioux Falls SD, and they showed up today. Pretty quick for a small outfit IMO.
Heading to the shop for testing.

Just too funny.

For Signs Of Stupidity, The Buck Stops Here

(We are responsible for the placement of traffic signs. I get this call from a resident where we just placed a deer crossing sign.)
Me: “Hello, [Government Office]. How may I help you?”
Resident: “Yes, you just placed a deer crossing sign down the street from my house.”
Me: “That’s right.”
Resident: “Well, I am not happy with its location. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of deer cross the roads in my neighborhood.”
Me: “What is your concern about its location?”
Resident: “I’d like you to move it down the road a few yards. It would be a lot more convenient if the deer knew to cross there. Can you do that before they get used to it where it is?”
