WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Another funny thing about my name. I went in for ear surgery as a kid. The doctor came out to my stepfather and told him your daughter is doing fine.

Raining again @ 54°A. And will be for awhile. About 150 points so far since the precipitation started this morning. Going by my old school glass cylinder rain gauge we've received about 150 points so far today. That totals over 3 inches in the last 4 days, 3 of which it has rained. Weasels say dry tomorrow with temps in the 40's. Rain returns Thursday and Friday. With the frequent rain we've been getting, you would think this was the PNW, NOLA, or FLA. Since March 1, we've had only 16 days that were more sun than clouds with rain or snow about half the days. Tired of all the wet, cloudy chilly weather. Back yard is a swamp again. Rain, rain go away. Wish I could send it to places that need it. I need to talk to my farmer friend, to see if they can even get in the fields. Think I'll lynch a weather weasel or two. Won't change the weather, but it will feel good!

Ole Geezer weather rant over.

I live an exciting life.

Glad to hear y'all's areas are staying hydrated, although I thinks Wook's area needs it more than Brian's.

Four and a half hours of fixing mistakes and entering data.

Somehow a Brazillian Copy of an Italian ni, . . . nin, . . . , .355 may, or may not have followed me home for a buck twenty.
I'll deny every word of it.

Not much better here, but better than you're experiencing.
The weather gods have actually smiled (OK, they smirked) upon me the past couple of days, with milder temps, calmer gales and no precip, at least not first thing in the morning. So I actually, literally got out to shoot early yesterday and this morning!!! 🤓
It was very pleasant even if the results were not the stuff of legend. The new old, rare Mauser Mm410 from the 1920s preformed admirably with the old Weaver 29S and the OEM open sights. The recently UK purchased, rare as a hen's toof magazine worked flawlessly (good thing for what it cost )
Also shot the beautifully ugly large frame sporting martini that was converted to 22 sometime back in the mists of time in merry olde land. It's a fun big old thing! It held its own with the Rube Goldberg-like affixed Armstrong dual range aperture sight, but I'll be adding a scope of some sort at some point using the D&T holes in the barrel meant for a side mount. The old Tasco in the swing over mount that came with the rifle was sold to friend who covets these things (truth is stranger than fiction!).
Today it was my lovely Browning Safari grade 222, a light barreled Ruger No. 1 243 and the mildly bubba'ed Mauser ES350B. Not too surprisingly, the Mauser 22 turned in the best group at 100 yds. with 4 of 5 shots landing in a 5/8" cluster. And I wonder why I keep buying these things . . . . .

End of very occasional post on the now perpetual? TWH.
Carry on driveling.

Bull.... 😁
I mowed my grass off, yesterday. So today I rested.Sharpened the blade and tweeked the RPM,s so it will cut & bag better.
Due to the recent scores I have been shooting, the ATA reduced me a yard.......like that will help.
Waiting for the guessed T-Storms.Think I,ll go plant my peppers before it rains.

I have a single shot Mauser .22 which I've never been able to identify the model.
It was a Katrina victim. It's now parkerized and the stock has been covered with truck bed liner spray.
It's a great shooting rifle with a shiny bore.

I'll geaux take a couple of glamor shots. If trailer park trash can be glamorous.

Bull.... 😁
I ordered two new Mec Gar 15 round magazines for it. Cost me seventy bucks. Now I'm into this turd for Two Ten.
Thing better shoot.

One of the few parts that are interchangeable with the Beretta is the locking block. Which is a good thing, cause these things are known to break.

Now off to look for a new Wolf spring for it.

I want to give it ever opportunity to impress me the first time to the range.

Well then next time you’re in the neighborhood you can choose whether to shoot your 1911 or B copy of a Beretta at the nearby USPSA pistol match, Don. 😀

The early version Beretta locking blocks were very square and prone to breaking. The current ones are not as square and hold up wonderfully. Just remember to keep the locking block lubed and you’ll be fine with performance and accuracy. If the locking block becomes dry like the Sahara Dessert accuracy goes kapooey because it’s wreaking havoc on the cyclic timing.

Lots of construction on my route to the range and just by chance picked up a nail in the left front tire on the tuna boat so now visiting the tire repair shop.

Did go to the range this morning and got in some trigger time at fifty yards with the Remington 40x versus a KYL target using the last couple layers of a box of Autosmash. In between sending the KYL targets round and round enjoyed the very bougie breakfast via the coffee shop. Most favorite barrista inquired about going to the range so said absolutely and we’ll schedule that sooner than soon. Always glad to help more folks enjoy our one of many rights and pasttimes. 😀

Oh, I'm still working on the 1911.
In fact, I just ordered some springs, including more springs for 1911s.

Also ordered a new magazine spring +5%, and a new 18lb recoil spring for my trailer park pistol.
Now I'm into this thing for Two Thirty Five.
Good thing I have thousands of Gold Dots to feed it.

Brother in law texted me to stop by on the way home so I did.

His sister bought a cabin and it had a unused oil tank. She said no way she is dealing with fuel oil and promptly put in a propane system. Sam, my bil, made a smoker out of it. Yes, that handle is a Damascus barreled shotgun.

Nice job. Looks like the 275 gallon tank they hauled out of my basement when I converted to natural gas 11 years ago. The $4 a gallon for oil was the straw that broke the camels back in 2010 or so. Oil is hotter than gas though.

He should build a rack across the top, and hooks to hang yardbirds. He could get about twenty across that thing, with plenty of room for brisket, hams, ribs and more.

There oughtta be a law!

:p

What you have Don (or had) is a DSM34 (Deutsches Sportmodell, which should still be visible on the side of the receiver if the bed liner hasn't completely obliterated it ), a sport "trainer", if you will. Many 10s (100S?) of thousands made, mostly by Mauser, but also by many other German makers under contract.

I still have that track and a Garden scale Trolly. It's really cool.

Thank you Lance.
Sadly, submersion in salt water for extended periods does bad things for markings and such.
This bore was likely never cleaned. That preserved it in bright shiny condition.

The stock was horribly stained from mold. I tried bleaching it. Even tried pool chlorine. Made the splochiness a bit brighter. Tried staining that. Made the splochiness darker again.
Otherwise the stock is minty. No gauges, dents or carvings.
I thought the truckbed liner was genius. I love the finish at the range.
