WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Managed to break 84% on the skeet league opener, a 22 & 20, shot with ¾oz 12 ga reloads using #9 shot of questionable linage that didn't appear to have been all that well screened for uniformity nor colour, for that matter. It appeared to have a good smattering of 8's innit, tho I didn't bother to 'mike' any ofvit. Werked fine, when pointed correctly. Used some Comp 'n' Chokes™ w/.005" constriction in a Beretta 686 Essential w/25" bbl.'s w/no side ribs. Those chokes are extended and add near 2" to the bbl.'s length. It's right handy for low gun shooting on flushing birds and werks pretty OK on skeets too, when I pay attention. Score wasn't great, but I was happy w/it. Second box wasn't shot until after 6:30. Turned out that other squads were also missing members for the opening afternoon, so it's all up in the air, status wise, until those missing today shoot. That may end up being next week's scores becoming those individuals first week's scores. Not sure how that's gonna be dealt with and honestly don't care, as long as it's uniformly applied. Team that we shot against shot very well, but they were missing a member. The three of us shot pretty OK. Too close to call, until the missing shoot, and then it will get decided. Not a big deal, I was happy enough just to be seeing the targets clearly again.

End of report.

Nuthin' like a leg cramp to get ya up out of bed QUICKLY, & RIGHT NOW!

Could have done w/o the experience, thank you. 'Tis more better, now, but have some lingering pain in the left ankle where I'd gotten the spider bite. There may still be some healing taking place in its inner werkin's. It's fair tender at present, but it was the calf on that side that was havin' the cramp that got me up. May or may not be a related issue. I had been doing a bunch of grunt werk yesterday before going to the club and could have unknowingly tweaked the ankle or stepped a little wrong at one time or another. When speaking w/the Doc the other day, I'd asked about certain issues that people develop or have from time to time and what caused it to happen. Her answer was... 'old age'.

Haven't had any alcohol in about a week. Can't say that I've the 'taste' for it, but half thinking to get a bit of whiskey and then stand on my left leg to see if I can get a little into the ankle's inners. Ha! That played back as a bit too Bubba, tho it might prove an effective two-bit indirect remedy, ya think?

69° @ 4 A, 59% RH, wind SE 9 under clear skies in bad air. The air quality around here is being negatively affected by all this non-stop construction and beehive activity from too many people spreading out over everywhere, like an untended broken jug of
molasses. Urban creep is a real and present horror.

Today's high is forecast to be only 81, so that's going to be really nice and I'm hoping to take good advantage ofvit. Need to get the wheeled trash bin to the street and see that it is stuffed to the gills w/broken down yard stuff on top of the house trash. It's OK to do that here.

Glad that Ian reduced itself to as tropical storm rather quickly. I've not read of any fatalities attributed to it and hope it remains so. Prayers for all affected by it and those that are taking on the task of helping to get things restored and cleaned up in its aftermath. Hope they get some decent weather to work in as well.

I'm going to try and get another hour or so of rest. The ankle still hurts but it isn't incapacitating. Will just work thru it and keep on trucking.

Onward(!), thru the fog.

Good Morning RFC'rs, et al:

Daytime images from Florida reflect the intensity of a near Cat V storm.

Today I plan on geauxing to Sam's Club for some grub and geaux juice. Whilst there, the bank is nearby and I need cash for the two new rifle kits arriving today. Then I'll pass by the shop and pick up a barrel and stock that arrived yesterday for the AR that was a pistol.

Once home, I'll assemble another AR to geaux in the rack.

It's seaux cold outside, the cats won't stay out. Fiddy-Seben degrees on the righteous scale. Only fiddy-two percent RH.
Keep that door open, Al.

Jack's platypus ducks?

42º with a high of 60 or more should make for a vunderbar day on the highway setting mousetraps and buffing on the Semper Fi this pm depending how this am flies for pre-op. In the 60s for the next 5 days should make for a great Splatz like summer.

Wife sez we have to go to Sam’s this morning cuz we is out of too much stuff. A crisp 37°F this fine morning. Suppose to get the remnants of Ian Fri&Sat. Better get the grass cut short so the leaves can migrate.

Water Bird Beak Waterfowl Ducks, geese and swans

They're of the northern shoveler (what a snoot) tribe.
Almost the first of our winter birdies.

100 mile R/T shopping at Ft. Lewis. The freezer is getting MT again...
Spooky going out without a camera though.

Breakfast first, then we'll see what the day will bring.

Life in the great PNW

The compressor in one of the two HVAC units decided that was it. Units are one year old Carriers and so odd of an occurrence. Nonetheless contacted the local installation company and replacement part is in stock and will be installed first thing tomorrow morning. Really responsive customer service so can’t complain about that no sir-ree.

Mup, am now seeing where one article says hundreds feared dead from Ian, but no pacifics, so hope it's just another exaggeration [that's my most unfavorite werd to rememebr how to spel] by the media.

Those are great pics of the pair of shovelers, cow! Their colouration is near identical to a mallard, but their eating habits are different, and there is a def. distinction on the plate. I mostly avoided shooting them back in my serial duck hunting days. Those that did get taken found their way into gumbos, where they were a good fit. They are known to sometimes fly w/mallards and not all of my companions were gifted in making distinctions in the heat of battle or early pre-dawn light. Hey(!), I honestly worked hard at it and back when I could still hear pretty good, I could even make some accurate distinctions in how certain ducks sounded in pre-dawn flight. Tried to not shoot hens of any type as well, but the dogs I had retrieved some anyway and they didn't mind in the least that someone had knocked one down anyway. great memories, those.

Last time that I was duck hunting was pre-Wuhan virus with a guide and his dog up in the TX panhandle. Used to hunt teal in the early season as well. Did that all over the place and just being out and seeing murmurs of birds in the early mornings was worth the price of admission and effort when the timing and place was right. What experiences! it's been five or six years now, I think, since I've done that and my hunting bud that is left doesn't have the physical stamina to endure it any longer. Not positive that I do either, but like many things... I'd like to think that I am still capable.

Coffee break is over, gotta get back tuit. It's a loverly morning out and Jack is one very happy guy, zooming about and in and out w/the back door wide open.

Did I mention that a sounder of feral hogs had been grubbing in the skeet fields' grass in the night? They had and messed up its cleanly mown appearance, but the positive is that the grubs were shallow, so they didn't make too big a mess and there is no need to use insecticide to use on the grubs to keep them from eating the grasses roots. The negative is that the staff will get to pick up some scat that was left behind. I doubt the event will lessen the overall emergence of June bugs, come next summer, but there may be a few less, proximate to the clubhouse.

Stopped by Harbor Fright and picked up a hand truck. Rated at 600#, I wouldn't put more than 300# on it but it is cheap enough and it will be handy in my declining years. Need to buy a bottle of slime to put in the tires so I don't have to pump them up every time I use it. Slime is good stuff.

Home Depot didn't text me that my water heater was in, I had to log in and czech status. It came in not destroyed and was on a cart for my ez transport to my car. Cart retriever saw me with it and came over to helped me get it into my Escape. Getting it out and into the garage was no problem as gravity was working my way.

Tomorrow, after work, I'll pick up the bits to do the installation, need a pan to put under it, a couple 3/4 npt to pex whips, some 3/4 pvc conduit, and pex connectors. Then I'll make some groceries.

Speaking of groceries, I stopped by Meijers this morning and after an upgrade, none of their registers could process my debit card. Thankfully I had enough cash in my wallet. I'll visit WM in the morning for my snacks for work.

Fog this morning was so bad I missed my entrance to the plant and had to take the last one.
