WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

That was likely a high school graduation party that I drove by, We did the same thing o' so long ago. I cried that night because I knew that there would be some people that I had been around for twelve years, virtually all of our young lives, that I would probably never see again. And that turned out to be true, many that I went to school with disappeared from this area and I've never heard of them again, not even a Facebook search turns up any clues. A few are dead; a few I don't want to see ever again. One guy from our class who never made it to graduation killed a Texas state trooper and got the death penalty for his trouble. I know of one who died from a genetic heart defect and two from car crashes. One happens to be my brother in law! We married sister's (not our own), I still need to punch him for introducing us....

Doctor appointments tomorrow. Belinda first in the morning, taking her to the wound care doctor to get some more calciphylaxis spots worked on. Calciphylaxis is a problem suffered by a few dialysis patients where calcium in the blood will deposit in capillaries, cutting off circulation and killing skin tissue, resulting in rather painful nasty looking sores. Diabetics and renal failure people have a hard miserable life. Plus she is sick with upper respiratory infection too. Got antibiotics, an inhaler, some tussin dm and a sack of cough drops yesterday afternoon after the urgent care trip. Not Covid or strep throat. She could barely speak and I can barely hear, a wonderful combination.

My doctor visit should be routine unless something unusual happens to show up. You never know. One place that you don't want to get any surprises! 🤯
The last snake that I saw here was all black; Rini, Rowdy and Tiger were all excited looking out of the bathroom window so I had to look too! There was a snake approaching the big bush by the bathroom window. It raised up and knocked a little green frog off a branch and nabbed it. It was comical watching the cats react to what was happening.
Got Be's appointment over with this morning. Doctor removed some stuff from the right foot heel, big toe and leg, necessitating a wrap up and a wedge shoe, plus removed the bad looking sore from her ear. Sent that for a cancer look see just in case. Dropped her off at our daughters house to stay with grandsons until tomorrow morning then I have to carry her to an early trip to the retina specialist for an inspection before dialysis. Run run run going to the doctors constantly. Staying alive ain't easy.
Now it's time for my doctors appointment, waiting to go back.
Got home from the doctors appointment, changed clothes and went to mowing. Got all of my place cut amidst a choking cloud of dust. Ran the weed eater until dark, then took time to sharpen a pair of blades before petering out for the day. Wore to the proverbial frazzle I am. Mr. Lee got the soybeans planted finally. Between the tractor tracks, the fire ant mounds and the armadillos digging up all over the place my back is killing me. Boneshaker lawn mower.

Have to get up early again tomorrow, this time to ferry Belinda to the retina specialist for a checkup before going to dialysis. If I don't get started on Mother's grass it'll be Wednesday.

It hasn't rained much lately and things are starting to wilt. Less mowing is good but we certainly don't need a drought.

I don't know what it was like outdoors here today. Didn't go out. I had plans to cut grass at mom's across the field, instead it turned into a hide from light beneath the covers day. I can stand to read some tonight as long as it isn't too bright. About done with the ketchup on everyone's adventures, good to see everyone safe and sound for another revolution of Terra. 😺
Sorry about your loss, Wolf. Losing family to things like Alzheimer's disease is terrible. My wife's grandfather was taken away by a combination of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease; it really hurt their family watching him fade then requiring 24-7 care for several years before dying. That's something that I fear with me having neurological disorders, if it does happen I hope to go out quickly instead of it being a long drawn out affair of misery for the family. I'd rather the young grandsons not remember me at all than remember a zombie on life support being their grandfather.
Dropped Be off at dialysis this morning, then had to decide what to do for a while. After being at home feeling terrible doing next to nothing for days I at least didn't want to to go directly back home. Decided to drive north and go up to the Huntsville area and look around. Stopped at Larrys Guns, several interesting but expensive SxS shotguns but no .22's to speak of. An American Arms 20 gauge and a Bernadelli 12 that were extremely attractive. Large amounts of rimfire ammo, especially CCI , but no Subsonic HP or RWS Subsonic which is what I like, so didn't blow any money. Left there headed north with another place or two in mind when I spotted a billboard, Gun Show at the civic center; had not been to a gun show in a while, so why not, let's go look. Had to park a long ways out from the VBCC, the once inside the show was all the way to the south side of the building. Once inside, several sellers had some really beautiful SxS shotguns, which I am drawn to look at, but at two grand and up all I can do is admire and walk on. Very little rimfire ammo and what there was had just laughable prices. A very few interesting rifles, mostly centerfire. Nothing but junk optics. Several sellers had some interesting knives and I do happen to collect pocketknives but I only spotted a couple that were in patterns that I might care to look at and as usual, steeply priced.

By now way too much time had passed and the pain was really starting to set in. And I still had to walk all the way back to the car. I didn't think that I was going to make it but it was getting desperately late to be on time to pick up Be at dialysis so there was no way that I could stop. Blew out of there in a hurry once I actually got back to the car. Made my way to Hwy 565 headed to 65 south and back to Cullman. Traffic was absolutely flying, there were places where I was exceeding 90 mph to stay with the flow of traffic and not get ran over! Gave the little 175 horsepower 2.0 liter 16 Valve DOHC a workout. I was still a little over 25 minutes later than when she was supposed to get out but I didn't get chewed out because she was late getting out of dialysis.

Saw a custom rifle chambered in .250 Savage today, it was a beautiful gun.

There was a few babes walking around with their husbands, boyfriends or whatevuh at de gawn shaw. Hardly ever saw that in Birmingham. 🤷‍♂️
Ducted fan, and it's a no-go on the cannon. :)

Made it home tonight no near deer impacts and no party sightings. El loco Gatos were happily leaping all over me since I'd been been gone all day. 😺
Sitting here dwelling on life not doing good. Sometimes wishing I was a hermit that didn't have to care about anyone.

Taking Be to the wound doctor appointment in a little bit. Toe is looking bad to me.

Got up this morning and cleaned house, what a mess. Hadn't swept and vacuumed since Thursday, cat hair everywhere! Refilled all the litter boxes. Gathered all the garbage together and emptied the vacuum cleaner, as tomorrow is trash pickup day. Got done with that and cleaned myself up. Trim and shower, all spiffy now, fresh clean clothes, I'll never be a pretty boy but at least I won't be mistaken for a vagrant now. 😹

Gobbler, that's scary to read, hope he didn't get salmonella on top of everything else.

Doctor removed some dead skin from Be's big toe but said that what had stuck to the bandage previously and came off wasn't that big a problem, that the tissue beneath was good and had blood flow to it. He cautioned her to keep it moister with the medahoney, that letting the surface tissue desiccate too much was a no-no. They're sending home health nurses out a couple of days a week to inspect and redress. She's still barking her head off coughing, not a bit better on the respiratory infection.

Yesterday after getting Be back over to our daughter's house I went home, picked up the mail, vacuumed the car out then decided to run back up to Walmartay to get some grocery items and then fill up the car with gas. Got town and it started raining. It was coming down hard while I was in the store but I caught a lull to put things into the car. Just as I got to the gas pumps the bottom fell out again so I said to heck with it, I don't want to get drenched just to fill up the gas tank, it'll wait until tomorrow.

Got back south to Hanceville and the power was out. Quite a bit of tree damage visible and it was obvious that the biggest part of the thunderstorm had went south of where I had been. Nothing down in the driveway so I could get in but I had to light the kerosene lamp to see to put things away. Power came back on sometime between nine and ten. Didn't see any trees blown down near the house.

Got Belinda back to see the doctor midday; got a sack full of medicine for the upper respiratory infection. Back over to our daughter's house to meet the home nurse, then Ashley back.

And I did get to fill up with gas finally without getting soaked. By the rain that is. 😹

Been having an awful time sleeping, or more accurately not sleeping. Have to be up and going again in the morning to get Be to dialysis. Daughter Ashley is supposed to pick her up in the afternoon. It's supposed to be raining still so maybe I'll be able to crash and conk out without interruption.

Sleep disturbances are just another part of the autoimmune disorder, disease, ever how it's termed. Five months with no treatment it certainly hasn't improved. Still waiting to hear back from the neurologists office regarding whether they're going to be able to get together with Cigna on the HMO insurance or not. I talked with my family doctor about the neurologist in their medical group; no help. He's about to retire plus he has no prior experience with such autoimmune problems. There's a new neurologist coming town in OCTOBER. That's it, there are no other neurologists in this area. Dr. Christopher Laganke of North Central Neurology who I have seen for years is THE neurologist for the entire area between Birmingham and Huntsville. I can't afford the 150 mile round trip drive 12-24 times a year to the Big Cities, plus there I would be two counties away from my PCP in an unfamiliar medical environment. So it's wait it out and hope for the best. I'm trying to be optimistic and keep up my sense of humor but the damage grinds away at me and the World of Pain has really strong gravity. 😿

Found out that I had forgotten about carrying Be to the retina specialist for an appointment this afternoon. Had to kill time at Walmart until she got out. I needed to get more cat food anyway. And got rained on again. She had to leave dialysis early. Still pouring down rain when we got there but they had a covered entrance to get her inside. I got wet AGAIN. Eye doctor said that everything looked better, an improvement since the last visit so that was good to hear. Our family doc also called about her yesterday's chest X-rays, just as thought, pneumonia. Confirmation of what he had already thought and she's gotten antibiotics, steroids and two types of liquid cough stuff already. Sounds terrible coughing up sludge non stop.

Got a shower when I got here at home. Wet again!; but hot water and soap this time. It is nice to be clean, dry and comfortable finally. We needed lots of rain but I think I've seen enough water for one day.
