WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Not seeing any toasted coconut or Bavarian cream.
I didn’t see any maple bars with bacon on top either. 🤔
My focus was off......finally found the rodent.Cold & windy today. Freeze warning for tonight. I dont have anything tender out .May have been a tornado, yesterday about 40 miles south of here.
Head is still stopped up ,drainage causing me to cough, and that hurts.
Question.....how long is the life span of a hardwired smoke detector ? The one in the basement is chirp ing.New in 88 I think.
Supposed to replace every ten years that is why kidde makes a battery one that is a ten year battery. But one thing you can do is hit it with some canned air. It might just be dirty. We had that happen with elevator at a resort I worked at. The dust was acting like smoke.
Ten years is what I’ve heard from the folks in the industry regarding smoke detector lifespan.

I finally noticed the mouse.
Thought the challenge was to figure out whose breasts they were.
Crumb catchers.
Finn reported a mouse 2 days in a row in the basement and said the latter was looking at her! Both were still alive and one jettisoned a lot of whiz on the floor just missing my shoes when I squeezed the jaws on its head, the filthy animal! 🐀😾 Trap was olde, tired, retired, and replaced. A young crow was a happy diner.
Finn went shopping for non grub necessities @ Tarzjay this evening and couldn't find a puddle to dirty her clean car.

Plan this Sat with the shiny new ride is a fish shack run to begin the process of stocking it up, checking traps, and getting the water lines, drains, etc ready for when the frost is out of the garage floor of which the water line is 2' below. One slab heaves up 1.5" at the relief cut in the center from frost hence a great indicator when the frost has dissipated. Be nice to wet a line too.
Long n short the Axe's daughter was here a couple days ago to supervise opening up the Axe's place with the same outfit that winterized it with antifreeze last fall. A water line froze in the wall. Axe pays a premium to get reamed by the biggest shysters in town here and thinks they'll/should repair it for free. No word yet how that went down but our money is it won't be free. 21yrs ago when her hubby died she wanted 200K for the place before she decided to live there forever. No way Jose then nor now but never say never eh?

Hey gang!
I was out late last night with an old gal pal so got very little sleep before going to work today. Got out of work today, got a haircut and came home and chilled out. I have to go in extra early tomorrow to meet up with a crane company that will be putting units on a roof for us. All those units are in my box truck as we speak waiting to be delivered tomorrow morning!

I am in bed nice and early so should be feeling just fine with an early start tomorrow.

Have a great night everyone!

Most hardwired smoke detectors have a battery backup.
They will chirp when the battery backup gets low. Change that battery, vacuum out any dust and you should be good to go!

Good Morning RFC'rs, et al:

A day of toil awaits me at the LGS. Today will be spent just trying to figure out what I need to do in the coming days.

The Java is especially good this morning.

Mornin',

A windy 40 degrees will turn into a windy and sunny 59 degrees.

Sight part came in, I was on the road all afternoon after work, so no chance to install and check the workings. This afternoon we will play with that.

Retrieved the wayward tractor tire and rim. Not bad for cutting the center out and welding it onto another rim, put in a tube and presto! This tire place does a lot of ag work and has been around for a long time. The owner just sold to a local chain. Things will operate the same for two years, then the owner has the option to walk away, which he likely will. He said it already feels better not worrying about payroll, bills, etc. He can just concentrate on fixing tires. Walking encyclopedia of knowledge of ag tires and rims, the community will miss him greatly when he is gone.

Mattress debate continues. Well, wife's debate, I just sit there and listen, nodding in agreement occasionally. We obviously operate in different manners, but we make it work. I guess. Neither of us are bleeding or in jail, so there's that...

Been hearing a lot of reports of rose breasted grosbeaks migrating through my immediate area. I have a picture of a female from 3-4 years back, but have never seen a male. Hoping maybe the cold snap slows them a little and they spread out and I get to see one or some.

Have a great day.

Good morning all!

Sitting at the job site waiting for the arrival of the crane. Three fairly large units and ductwork will all be hoisted up soon. The crane should be here at 0730.

My job is to rig this stuff so it gets from the ground to the rooftop without damage or any other issues.
It's almost showtime.
Later gators!

All of my squad was there to shoot yesterday tho we were late in getting started w/one flying back in during the late afternoon and another caught in a huge accident-related traffic snarl. At 4 P the weather and conditions were about perfect w/just a few high elevation clouds and mild breeze. The squads that started shooting then posted some impressive scores. Time we got started it was close to 6 and a front had moved in and shut off all the light w/a total overcast and the winds picked up to SE 14 G 21 and then switched to S 13 G 24 and time we were done we successfully shot our way from 1st to 4th place. I shot better than the previous week but only 'covered' on the first box w/my handicap. One of the guys ran the first box and got two boxes of 12 ga target loads as an award for that accomplishment. Another shot one of the higher scores posted and was awarded a box of shells for that. Our loss of place was due to the second box or last five stations we shot where the lack of light and winds were a decided factor on presentations that were set tough to begin with. It wasn't that we shot badly, rather it was that other squad we were matched against shot much better and so did two others that shot early. All of us posted lower scores on the last box... and we were punished accordingly. 😖 History now. We need to do much better next week. We all had a good time and it was nice that we could all shoot together. Next week will see at least two of the guys out of town on bidness so they will either have to pre-shoot this weekend or use their first week's score as a 'bank'. Doing the latter would prove detrimental, but so will posting a poor score. Heated battle... in the slow lane, these leagues.

Noticed some crazy price jumps on the gas pumps between going out and returning w/diesel going
way up. Regular swirl is back up to $4 or a bit better! Not good and not sure what that's about unless it's the markets realizing that crude is likely to stay around or above a hunnert a barrel for some time, so the gougers are taking advantage again but nuthin looks good to me, short term. Add the too little, too Whot I see is a very expensive mess is about to play out... whether we like it or not. It falls under that Physic that says once an object is set in motion, it can be hard to stop. There's stuff coming down hill fast... and it's snowballing.

Fixin’ to head out to get this cataract in the right eye taken care of. Hopefully I will be able to see better in a few days.

I went with the wife for her consultation with her eye Dr about getting her cataracts fixed. She asked the surgeon about the multi focal lens. Well that’s a non starter. The extra cost to do both eyes was about $5200. Being 70 years old and having worn glasses most of her life anyway that hardly seemed worth the cost.

Everyone have a great day.

5 to 10 years. Is it 110vac or 12/24vdc hard wired. Into an alarm panel? Low voltage smokes are cheap and they don't have to be programmed like a wireless. Shouldn't be more than $50. If its a 12vdc unit into an alarm panel, just replace it.
Rhody, did that, knocked the cobwebs out too. So far so good.

Leaving for the first golf match of the year for our group. Only played a few times last year so will be an adventure. Did go out and hit about a dozen balls off into the woods. I'm good to go.
