WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Any video camera aficionados here?

Since I have numerous grand kids I was thinking that I might get a video camera to record for posterity some of their actions and family gatherings and events. Might also use it for my own adventures and perhaps documenting projects, bike maintenance and projects, gun stuff, etc. I have no experience with video cameras or video editing.

Any suggestions for this technologically challenged Luddite for a inexpensive, good, simple, easy to use video camera and video editing equipment? Probably shouldn't use the word inexpensive. I don't need a fancy video camera with lots of fancy special effects and such.

I initially thought Go Pro, but am not so sure. Seems like a lot of Go Pro users have complaints of sudden shut down due to over heating.
I would probably go with a nice bridge camera if you don't want to get into changing lenses. Almost all the dslrs now a days do video. Do you have a budget in mind. Not going to recommend a particular one because like a few other here we are biased towards Nikon. Here is some that might fit what you want.

I just use my DSLR’s or an iPhone either so a great job. For point and shoot cameras with video capability Samsung was ahead of the game a few years ago with great quality and very high frame rates.
I have an old Canon point and shoot that has 60fps frame rate that I was able to stop an arrow with using kinovea software ten to fifteen years ago. Free software with amazing capabilities for editing and stop action.

Fun pics of the 'Blues' family, Brent! The bride enjoyed them too. Looking at their nest one can easily see how nature showed early primitive's how to weave baskets. It's an easy supposition to posit, that.

Still blowing hard from the N. 62° and ya need a shirt-jacket or being really busy, if outside.
Snagged some more grub & essentials this am from both stores and paid in full more than ever. Gaaah! 😳
Caught a nap this pm interrupted 2X by spammers per the Finn with volume on high on all 4 phones, yet her hearing is just fine.

Crappy weather coming on the radar and she wouldn't quit the phone to pick me up at the sound/ceramic shop hence drove there in the first snow of the day @ 38˚.

Better than being Toothless and brainless.
Retrieved a few tons of washout from the other drive, and filled the ruts from two years of being put off.
The drive is on the far end of the lot we picked up beside us about 11 years ago. We bought it, tore down a red tagged double wide, and filled in the basement with the sand mound we had tore out. At the time I put a slate base across the back of the lot and continued the drive to cross over and connect with the back of the drive at the house. Sorta like a drive through with no samich at the other end.:(

While I was bouncing my bones in the little yellow box I added a few ton of dirt behind my target. It had done a lot of settling since I put it in, and the dirt wasn't much higher than the target backer. It was a little to wet to get the right side were I want it, so I'll let it dry up a little then add a few more buckets. I still have a few tons of top soil that came out of a hoarse show arena to top it of with. It makes for fast weed growth. Think hay seeds and :poop:

Hit 80* again today. Way to hot for this time of year, but heading back down to a high 40's high for Wednesday.

First Monday of the week. I expect at least a couple more at work this week.

Temps declined, the A/C is off and the furnace is on.

I got my laptop talking to my guide camera, my imaging camera, and my focus motor. Ordered some usb A to B cables in both 2.0 and 3.0 varieties to tidy up the wiring. I'm hoping to get some astrophotography in soon. I hear part of Arizona is on fire so that might be a problem.

Baked fish and a hot dog for dinner as I was still hungry. I'm heading off to bed now.

Great pictures of the bluebirds! I'm still trying to get a pair to move into my bluebird house.

Good night, sweet dreams all.
Szumi maybe you need to put up a sign that says cheep rent.
Back to the range with 3 10/22's, the LVT did well, the 22" Walnut stocked did pretty good and the Kidd barreled, CPC'd puked all over the place...oh well.
Great pictures Brent. Thank you.
Thank you Brian! 🙂

Thanks wook! What we see several times a day. I have noticed that the parent blues are more aggressive towards me when I inspect the nest box. I suspect they have become more aggressive from battling the house sparrows the last few years. They even ran off the tree swallows that they surrendered a nest box to last year. I’m contemplating putting up another nest box in the back yard. There are bluebirds back there too. I just don’t want to encourage any house sparrows though. We’ll see! 🤷‍♂️

Thanks Szumi! These came fluttering at the living room window begging me to put out a nest box. I guess we’ve spoiled them so much that they expect us to provide free housing now. I’m just happy they don’t vote. 🤣

Brent Maybe the birds are getting section 8 to pay for the house.

Got out this afternoon and did some more mowing. Dust and leaf cloud flying. Had to pick up a bunch of dead wood again. The old oak by the southeast corner of the backyard that died a few years ago dropped another huge piece of limb that I had to cut up with the chainsaw. The old Stihl is starting better with a fresh spark plug in it. The older lawn mower is too. Got up to the mailbox before dark and my new glasses had arrived. Tried ordering from the same place our daughter does, Goggles4U.com; I was a little apprehensive about ordering glasses without trying on the frames beforehand, but apparently I measured correctly, they fit perfectly. Updated prescription on the right eye so upon trying them on I could instantly see better. Whole new glasses cheaper than what I was going to have to pay over what my insurance would on just replacement lenses for my existing frames. These are progressive lenses with scratch resistant and anti-reflection coatings like the old, and I believe that I got the interpupillary distance more accurate than the optometrist did. If I hadn't been an idiot and forgotten to put in the 73 percent off coupon code that my wife had from them in an email they would have been all but free. If I can still do that I may order another pair and add photochromic lenses for sunglasses.

Phil email them and tell them you forgot to put the code in they may accept it. My Golden rule in life if you don't ask you never will know. I learned that dealing with Thompson center many moons ago. My dad had one of their hawkens in for repair when their facility burned. They could not fix it. So they sent a list of replacement options. But not what he wanted. So I took the shot and called them for him. Got the right person and they said no problem and sent it right out. Was a much more expensive rifle. My dad learned that day to let me call for him. He goes they wouldn't do it for me. But then I am someone that can make anyone be happy to help me. He made the same mistake with ruger. I called and new rings sent free of charge. So I have learned to be nice and always ask.

It's raining...

In spite of it all, we made it down to the south park for a trial run with the latest camera.
I like it well enough... (288 pics today)
Few tweaks and I'll be good to go.
