WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

…Reading the d700 manual looks like it would take three months to get it right.
So you read manuals? I’m starting to see the problem now.o_O

Little high strung but he tells it like it is in his comparisons. He’s also in your neck of the woods. Your not the only one that has said the same about image quality.

Wow! Sounds like he is talking about a different camera than my D850. No doubt there will be different cameras that perform better than others depending on the test being done. The struggle I had with mine was early on and was simply my being unfamiliar with the “new” camera. For me, the higher megapixel over my D7100 seemed to produce photos that weren’t as sharp when doing handheld shots. I’ve found that a faster shutter speed takes care of that. Sure the D7100 might do it at a slower shutter speed, but who cares! I find there’s far more advantages using the D850. That doesn’t make the D7100 a terrible camera. These online video review “professionals” tend to strain out a nat and swallow a camel. People, myself included, tend to want something they can just pick up and get professional results with little effort. We don’t want to spend a lot of time experimenting and learning what gives the desired results. That said, there are certainly times that a lower megapixel camera will do a better job. I would not have picked the D850 if I was doing sports photography. You need a camera that can process the image files very quickly. Anyway, not really ranting over someone in a video saying that another camera is better. I’m not a Nikon or D850 guy. It’s simply what I chose to use and it works perfectly fine in the real world once you learn how to set it up for what you’re shooting. If it’s not satisfying to use, then by all means move on to something else. People love the Ruger 10/22, but I hate them. I’ve taken some and made them great shooters, but I was never fond of them. Now CZs, …… ❤😘😍🥰💕💗💖💞💝😻❤‍🔥!!!

My review is simply that. Mine! I have two DSLRs and always find myself gravitating to one. For me, the outcome seems to be that of the country boy who only has one rifle. Of course if he had a better gun with a bigger scope, he could produce smaller group sizes on his deer! 🤣

… Did have bone fragments poking out through gums five years later though.
Ouch! The old misery merchant I had for a dentist from 8yrs old until I went into the Air Force pulled an abscess tooth that spring and a year later. the last piece of bone worked it’s way to the surface.
Good morning all.

Really liked the pup/boardwalk pics Lon! (y)

I took the day off today due to a medical appointment. Still woke up very early. Force of habit I reckon. Friends and I have rented a beach house again this year. We will be there the last two weeks of July. So, working 4 days this week then party time.

Speaking of parties, we are putting together a search party for dlong. Sign up sheet at the end of the bar! 😉

Hope you had a blast with your pals d.

Have a great day everyone!

Alive and well, thanks. Weekend was a blast. Saturday night is a blur. We all think we’re 22 and we’re not. Born 40 years too soon. Girls are 10 to 1, and they’re all pretty. Me and my buddy finished off a bottle of reposado, along with some herb and spices. Fishing yesterday was OK. Caught 2 short fluke, a skate and dogfish. Captain caught 2 doormat fluke one of which I lost netting it. One bluefish and a major buzz. Always fun when we get together which is not often enough.

I cooked two HUGE baking potatoes on the little grill. A HUGE Steak was split between us, with half the steak left over. Broccoli accompanied the meal as something green is a requirement.

It et gud.

Ordered a light weight complete upper from RSR. It's 16" with a light weight aluminum free float guard. The novelty that caught my eye is it's 1:9 twist, which should hurl those 55 gr projectiles I assembled very well. Would also make a good candidate for a CMMG conversion to .22LR should I ever desire. Not sure which lower I'll build on. I've got choices. What ever I do, the intent will be to keep it as light as possible. I'll probably replace the BCG with one that has a Ti coating, or hard chromed.
I've already got a Nikon fixed power AR scope.

Bad hide from the light and pray for it to hurry up and be over day. It was supposed to be a big day out cutting yards, didn't happen for me. Hope I can start tomorrow after transporting Be to dialysis.
I'm cooking a little steak.. 6oz bacon-wrapped filet, $3. It's been bobbling in the sous vide for a couple of hours and I'll finish it on the grill while mixing up some instant potatos.

Life is good..

Separate post because it's a totally different topic. Got a scam txt a little while ago from someone I've never met saying "it's me again" and wondering if I was interested in selling my home.

The content of my response would get me banned from this site. I also registered the number with the FTC and FBI (you can't fake txt numbers) - I've worked in security for close to 30 years, I know the inner workings.

I'm seething but whatever. Cujo is snoring away alongside me and my steak is probably getting close to being ready.
Just checking in. I was out in north east Kansas today spraying some soybean field, the corn is looking stressed and with no rain and heat forecasted some the next few days won’t help. On the drive home I got an email from one of the growers in north east Oklahoma, he is considering taking the insurance on his corn. Could be a rough year coming up.

Was feeling good. Went for a bike ride for around a mile . Son was right I should wait four days before over exerting self as I had surgery. Headache is back tenfold. Kids these days always call on Dr Google for answers.
Another bowl of ice cream devoured but a steak smoothy sounds better. 24 hours since solid food and starving, oh wait I had a hash brown and McSausage Bisquit on the way to dentist. Of course McDonalds food when full only lasts ten minutes and hungry again.
Nothing much is worse than mouth pain. You might try some protein shake mix.
Hot buffalo wing sauce, burn those nerve ending dead……..:)

I'm glad that the sun is setting finally. Dimming light is good. Migraines start off with and the leave me photosensitive for hours. Have to dim things as much as possible to withstand the light. Can't get any real pain meds anymore, acetaminophen is it. Take an overdose of benadryl and pull the covers over my head until I could sleep.
You decided on Cujo? :ROFLMAO: Too funny.
Nah, she's Dixie. I'd call her Winn Dixie but hardly anyone would get it.

She's just full of beans. If I shared pics of my arms, you'd think I've been playing with Lions..

I was out under for Wisdom teeth twenty some years ago. They give me good stuff as I was awake but just long enough for wife to poke a pill down my throat for five days after surgery. Did have bone fragments poking out through gums five years later though.

The worst was a back molar that an old dentist found an abscess on the root in an otherwise perfect tooth. Another dentist had apparently drilled too deep in prior work. He stood behind me digging at the pulled molar with s pic so I asked if I could have it as a souvenir. Figured it out when cleaning it up at home that 1-1/2” of jaw bone was still attached, then the nummies wore off🥹 Wife called him asking for pain meds as I climbed curtains pacing the house. Take an aspirin was his answer!
A wise and sympathetic doc once told me; all doctors should have the same symptoms and pain their patients experience to make em better doctors and treat their patients accordingly. This anti pain meds kick the country is on is only shared by the healthy.
Ouch! The old misery merchant I had for a dentist from 8yrs old until I went into the Air Force pulled an abscess tooth that spring and a year later. the last piece of bone worked it’s way to the surface.
USAF dentist once told me before an hour of sweating getting a reluctant wisdom tooth removed is making sure to get all the pieces of broken roots out and he would do his best to get it out w/o breaking any. He actually had his foot jammed against the chair in our lil tug of war. I later took him fishing on the best fishing day of his life in freshwater.

You blew the net job for the capt?:LOL:

Got nice n cloudy after I grilled burgers so attacked the the remaining fence vines and of course the breeze died and it got sunny out. Sweaty and bug chewed but got er done.
Chippy wouldn't have anything to do with store brand PB traps, even with a freebee smeared on one of its deck entrances. Whilst I was chilling it came with a mouthful of grub to stash under the deck and then sat on the deck checking me out. Stayed there while I went inside the basement and cocked the pellet gun and when I slid the door open posed for me 6-7' from the muzzle. I held 1.25"H and the tough guy made it 4' before expiring from a boiler room shot, the filthy #14 animal.

I had big plans of getting up early today and working on getting all the grass and weeds cut at both mine and Mom's across the field. Didn't work out that way in spite of being just 89 degrees with a nice breeze according to the weather site. Slapped down by reality I am. Everything should have been good and dry again after all the rain Saturday afternoon into Sunday A.M. A great mowing day completely wasted. Instead I just keep my pulse low so my head doesn't explode.🤯
Well me made it to Maui...sorry for the absence I'm here. Family drama has consumed me...

Started out with my learning that my bride & I are in one resort while my daughter's in another resort 15min walk away...I was pissed to say the least. As a father in unfamiliar territory my children were separated from me and I blew my lid. So I've been the family outlaw azz hat...

Y'day I met with two of my World Radio Club operator members...that was cool. Much like those of us here on this forum meeting in person. Both of them live here on Maui.

Vow renewal ceremony is this evening...we wade out to a catamaran & have ceremony & meal on the boat.

At a lil shopping mall now and found this... didn't someone here in TWH like this flavor?

Well I've been summoned from my bench here in the mall...so until next time folks
