WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

S to center of Yooperland is being threatened by the guesser with 18-24" of sneaux! I'd sue. Sure hope the majority, all?, of that ssss stays S of mwa.

15º @ Yoopersville N Central
It’s going to be fun!
With winds expected to be at 45 per for Saturday morning Clays, I may give them a break!

Depending on if the son stops by before work this evening with tierod ends to replace or not, I better go shoot today during the heat wave. 41° for the high yet still 21°.

Boy, you take a day off and I have a lot of ketchup to do...

Today I'm gonna renew my CPL. :)

Camera gear coming both today and tomorrow (new lenses).
This time I'm trying out a manual lens (35mm f1.4) for the new Lumix. If it works I'll get one for the Zfc as well but a 50mm.
As long as it keeps me interested and amused, I'm good with that...

Life is good!

Yesterday I took the Ex for her cataract surgery. She told me, she's amazed at the improvement so far. 20/20 in her now new eyesight (left eye). I took her in for her after surgery checkup. Besides some minor swelling She seems to have handled it very well. It gives me hope for my own surgery (not approved by the VA yet) To get mine done locally. She'll get her right eye done the 2nd week of April. I'm really Happy that she's doing well, TTL.

After her appointment, I took her to her home, Visited with Coco, the Cat she got custody of after we split. Glad Coco still remembers me. After that, I went to my FFL/LGS to pick up my Ruger Security 9 Compact. And it fits perfect as my new pocket carry. Paid my $30 transfer fee. Bought a Hat (Red) for the shop, So far, Today is a Fantastic Day! I hope everyone is doing well.

I’m SW of him near border and will likely get the brunt of the heavy stuff. Elevations have a lot to do with where it drops as well as temperature. Al has a partially frozen lake to make lots of snow with high winds off lake. We are fifty miles from the Great Lakes so colder in general.

Tie rod ends replaced on the sons Raider but had to put the stripped 16-1.50 LH lock but back on as those only come with the adjustment sleeve that has to be spect ordered. Toby come through at Carquest finding a sleeve with nut for $22 plus shipping. They are not listed at any other local auto parts supplier and did find them online at almost $80 each. It pays to have a close contact with your local family owned auto parts place. We found that the local Dodge dealer dumps all parts records for their vehicles older than eight years. Need a part buy a new truck!

Home from the Range. A buddy, Chris, showed up right after I arrived. He sped up the process immensely by taking my notes. (I offered to let him shoot )

I was using a Dan Wesson .357 magnum revolver with a six inch vent heavy barrel mounted.

Remember, I'm the laziest reloader. I never trim straight wall pistol brass. This is mixed headspace range pick up brass. There are going to be variances in crimp and case volume.

I'm using Power Pistol. I've got a metric scat ton of the stuff that I picked up cheap. It is a fast powder that uses very little usable case volume.

I managed to get a ten round deviation of 46 fps on my best load, doing everything right. I'll take that. It is a load that will be just fine in a Model 10. Averages about eight hundred seventy feet per second. Plenty to knock down a plate, or turn a dueling tree.

Worst ten round deviation was 132 fps.

The .45 acp rounds averaged 868 fps which is just about right at under fifty degrees outside. Bore looks alright after shooting fifty pre-cast bullets.

My 5.56 55gr loads averaged just over 2800 fps.

No chronographs were harmed in the making of this post.

Stopped at the LGS in Slidell that Herb hangs out at. Hung out there for about an hour.

Came home, ate lunch, then went out to the shop. Loaded another 50 of the .45acp for Sunday, along with another 60 .38 spl. Primed another hundred .45 cases.

Tonight dinner out at Restaurant des Familles

Front end Auto suspension/steering work can indeed be a PITA. Especially if you're dealing with 'Struts', I don't currently own a 'car', Just 1/2 ton chevy PU. My 20 ton hydraulic press gets the job done for me for many things. On most things, not everything. For 'U Joint's' I still use my 6" cast iron Vice to install them. Talking about this reminds me, I need to change spark plugs. Change Engine Oil, oil Filter. Wash & clean the AirAid air filter. Lube Chassis....My truck only has 111,000 miles on it. The Vast majority of those miles was me going to & from The VAMC from my area of Safford, AZ to Tucson, AZ. Replaced the 4L60E trans @ 84K, (bad FWD/&rev Sprags). Need to get the Trans fluid/filter changed in another 10K miles.

20 deg here but supposed to be 50 today. Just got back from New Smyrna Fl. yesterday. Went with a group of guys that raced at the track there. Now they just go down for the fun of it. Last time I was with these guys was over ten years ago. Most kept up well with an occasional recharge. Note graphic recharge photo.

Howdy all!
What started off as a nice moderately busy day ended with my having to have my box truck towed. The starter gave up the ghost! Oh well. I have a 16' rental truck booked for tomorrow. My usual truck will be done and ready for pick-up tomorrow afternoon.

I stopped at the market on the way home to pick up some supper. There was a woman with a heavy Carribean accent in the checkout line ahead of me. Her credit card kept getting declined. The manager came over and told her they would hold on to her groceries until she went home and came back with payment. It appeared from her groceries that she had a family. I said to the cashier "I got this." and swiped my card. She was very grateful and thanked me. I just said "Happy Easter, have a good night." It felt right.

.....Sauce (they call it gravy). My Ex is True blood Italian, born & raised. Her Family is still over there.
Not all Italians call it that. My family is 100%. Grandparents on both sides were straight from Italia. They always called it sauce. We still do. Different strokes and all that.

Back from a day at the range. Well an hour and half anyways. Had to make a new shim for the MAS scope base as .090 was too thick and bottomed out on scope adjustment. After flinging the nice brass shim into never never land with the stationary belt sander found a scrap of aluminum that was .056. Fit it the other night and mounted scope. With bolt removed and peering through the bore then scope first shot got me in the ten ring. Windy from all directions shot a few groups at 25 then moved target to 50. Rifle is very capable of shooting ARA Factory 2500’s with the cheap stuff.
Tore down the trigger and action of the SuperX mod 1 after a winter of just swabbing the bore. There was gunk of unburnt powder residue from the thousand rounds of so fired. Hosed out with gun scrubber then air compressor with a squirt of Lucas penetrant. Brought along various light loads that weren’t cycling before and shot quick double taps with each, cycling flawlessly again. Guess it looked cleaner than it was or too thick of oil on 10° mornings.

Took the wife to her PT this afternoon, them made a quick dash to get the little Jeep inspected. It passed but had to replace a bulb in the 3rd brake light...I cant see it.

Lon, is your MAS factory tapped for a scope ? Local auction house has one for bid. I would need a scope to use it.
