WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Good looking Pups, sure make me miss my Kate...

Nope Rhody, I'm not going anywhere, that was my rant over a couple of folks busting on Wookness over his blue posts, one in particular who seems to be negative about everything anyone else does. No not Al...😁

Good news is the Turkey hunt is on for Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, plus some Carp removal from one of the two ponds on the Farm. I've not had a chance to hunt with my Nephew ever and stopping by his house with a 8 point buck's head and cape in the back of my truck is what started his desire to hunt. He's the President of a fair sizing Residential Management company which had made my Dad and now me a lot of money so its been hard for us to connect.

Nephew with a Turkey he took opening day at the Farm

His Dad, my BIL, with a little Bass from one of the Ponds

Farm hasn't been hunted nor ponds fished in over 5 years.

Do they have names?
We have a Copper and a Gus, hopefully two of the female Yooper pups will be picked and receive names this coming weekend. All males have been reserved and four of the girls with two remaining unspoken for. Guess I should print out a few fliers for local bulletin boards and get a move on the remaining two.

I’ve chosen my male as Breda’s mate for future breeding. A liver and white male a week younger than our pups with impressive lines. I’ll pick him up in May when I tote the southern pups to the lower.

I have to come up with a name for this guy too but need to meet him first.

Crashed hard after dropping son off at work 6am. Was sore from yesterdays trail work and toting a chainsaw for a few miles. Whatever o did during that nap fixed my sore shoulder once more. It’s like the titanium fasteners holding tendons to bone get a little twisted at times when I move wrong. Who knows, but I was thinking a slumber in a bath tub full of warm CBD oil may help for body aches and pains. The daughters auto mechanic work had me hurting for a full week and the only thing that give relief was the little tin of CBD salve a coworker made up. Lots of high priced fakes being sold these days but I give it a ya whatever until I tried this one. It’s legal, why not!
Sunny and 32° at the moment and supposed to climb to 41. If the sun continues will get the pups outside once more. We pride ourselves on handing over eight week old pups that know where to go potty, outside. This weather has to let up soon I would think.

Had some rain overnight. Asked the roofers to hold off until next week. They would have torn off the roof yesterday, leaving it exposed to the elements. More rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Too tight of a schedule for them to complete it in two days like they stated.

I just ran across something regarding membership fees.
Good catch. Let's see if I can find a way to get that in front of everyone.

I'm going to build a flag "pole" like my dad's to mount on my house, I'm thinking here...
Nice artwork. (y)

I've never had luck with that kind of mount. Eventually wind drag on the flags causes too much movement of the bracket and the fasteners begin wallowing out the holes in the wood. Leverage and all that. Maybe not an issue if there isn't much wind where you live.

Something I've seen work better, though not as attractive, is a two point attachment. The base of the staff on the wall below the fascia and a second supporting bracket on the fascia.

Eyes to the skies and wondering if and how much rain will be receiving this week. Snow pack could be more robust so we’ll see if Mother Nature will help us out this year. To the range for some more definitely beneficial practice with the long guns. E-message from PRS MD says it’ll be 80 rounds for the folks shooting open class and 64 rounds for the folks shooting prone this Sunday. There are potentially three stages whereas one would be shooting primarily from barricades and there is limited to no area there conducive to shoot prone (we’re in the Coastal Range mountains). Will be squaded with good folks that have seemingly gravitated together each match. Contemplating bringing the 6.5CM and the .223 Wylde along and decide that morning what the wind conditions for the day will be. Advantage of the smaller cartouch is it’s half the weight of the other and so less to tote over hill and dell. Disadvantages is dealing with the wind once past 600 yards and targets are anywhere from 200 to 900 yards. 🤔

Ended up with 5''s of white wetness yesterday. Mid 30's today, roads and walks melted quickly, not melting much elsewhere.
3” so far, 34*, after the weather we have been having, this is a minor setback

As to the subject of different font colors, I noticed that there are 26 to choose from here but the box to enter a HEX code is there too. So if anyone wished something other than what is provided they can enter an approved HEX code in that box. Here is a web page with 140 colors by name and HEX code with an example of the color…

A few examples below of colors that I don’t think are available here.

Salmon HotPink OrangeRed Gold Magenta OliveDrab Blue Maroon etc, etc.

I won’t even get into the different shades of gray and white. I wouldn’t even call some of those colors by what they have them named.

Nice No New Tricks... (y)
Somebody fizzled at Wooks blue posts? How silly. Last time I checked nobody forced anyone to read it. Don't want to, scroll on by. Lots more complicated things to worry about. Make life simpler.

No need to make the font color debate a bigger deal than what it was. Everyone is adjusting to the new format and I would venture to say that wook wouldn’t want anybody to have a hard time reading his posts. Those font colors that NoNewTricks shared have options there that would look good in dark or light mode. 👍

Nice bass(!)... in that pic, Gerald. I love fishing farm ponds or ranch tanks when given the opportunity. Some contain very nice surprises. Can recall one that was small and deep that held some 'dinner plate' crappie and google eye's & war mouth pan fish that were exceptionally large & thick. Took a couple of very nice stringers from that pond on two dif. occasions. It didn't look like much, in its brushed over setting, but it sure held some good eating panfish. Another was on a dove lease that my dad had. That one was on a hillside and hidden by mesquite. Hard to get to but was fed by an underground spring and half covered with lily pads. It was one of the best places I've ever fished for black bass and it was all top water lures. Hedden Hulla-Popper's, Baby Torpedo's or a weedless rubber frogs were the preferred lures and it was chock full of 2~3 pound black bass. Dad & I took a number of them over the several years he had the place and we would clean and scale several for the owner who was a 92 yr. old lady when he first made a deal with her to hunt on the place. She told us how to get to that tank and she loved to eat those bass, but she didn't have the strength to get back there to fish for them any longer. She was always delighted when we'd do that. We kept and ate some too. I like their taste well enough, but don't kill any over 2 #'s, unless they somehow get hooked in the tongue. I'd rather have crappie or pan fish but the bride likes the black bass best, so these days when fishing at the cabin or taking her on a fresh-water fishing trip, I'll keep a few small but legal ones just for her, otherwise I put them back.

Have a strong hankering to be doing some spring fishing, but have yet to act on it. Need to fix that now that I've some stuff behind me that had to get dealt with. Have a bud that chartered a boat out of
Venice, LA for he and his teenaged son and a couple of other family members over spring break. They didn't catch a lot of fish, but managed to land a 135# swordfish that all got turns playing before it was brought to gaff. Fresh swordfish steaks make for some fine eating. It was one of mom's fav.'s when we could get it from the fish market here and she would buy it from the market in Port Aransas when we vacationed there in the summers for a few weeks in a small kitchenette cabin. Fun memories, those. They had a lot of beach sand in them, but some found sand dollars too and fresh flounder and sea trout was plentiful there and easily caught in the 50's. My mind finds it so easy to wonder down many happy trails that only exist there, now. Thanks for the kicking that door open, Gerald. Hope that your coming gobbler hunt is successful!

On dog names for your new male, Lon... may I suggest 'Jake' or 'Kreiger'? Jake was a deceased friend's pointer that was the best bird dog I ever hunted over and Kreiger [rifle bbl.'s, yano] was a Drahthaar one of my close friends had that was the finest pheasant dog I've ever had the honor to hunt with. He just passed last year, after 17 years of a great life. I don't recall exactly how long Jake lived but it was beyond what most pointers get. Wanna say 13, but I could be wrong. No one to ask, now. There is also an English fotball player of some note by the name of Jake Livermore, who is a stoutly built bloke w/a determinate look and expression and history of being a tough guy to go up against in the field. More idle thot's, eh?

The sun is out now and it's a glorious morning for extricating weeds. 62°, RH 54%, wind SE 16 G 26. Gotta get back at it and hope my hands hold up.

Cold and windy this morning, slowly warming into the 60's thank goodness will be standing outside passing out food this afternoon. Glad that brought good memories and thoughts to you Wookness. I'll enjoy the trip no matter the game outcome. :)

+1 on the bass.

I had similar experiences at some gravel pits that a local sand and gravel company had excavated and left when they filled with water. Now they are surrounded by a KOA campground. Ah well, nothing much stays the same as it was 60 years ago.
Yesterdays snow storm lingered on this morning with some squalls blowing down the mountain. Didnt amount to anything. Temps have climbed out of the 30s but the wind chill is still down there.
Grass will have to be cut agan by the end of the week as temps then will be in the 70s,and with the rain ,things are jumping. Apple tres starting to bloom.Havent seen or heard any Gobblers for awhile. Hens should be setting (here) by now.
