Gentlemen,
I appreciate your comments on scoping the rifle.
The "specialist" , who I bought the rifle from
suggested a Ziess 4.5x14x40 side adjustment for fifty yd. He claims to read newsprint at 50 yds.
I am going to try an Burris 8x32 signiture that I now have. I don't compete, so I probably will opt for a more flexable scope like the 4.5 14. Again, I appreciate all I have been able to learn on this forum.

You couldn't go wrong with the Zeiss, but it's probably too much for a .22LR unless you plan on spending a lot of time at the bench. And even there it's a compromise.

For hunting I'd recommend a Zeiss 1.5-6x V/MV for this rifle.

If you don't compete, the 8x should be plenty.

I have the eariler 54sporter with the monte carlo stock and I used the Redfield bases and rings to mount a Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14-44mm scope on it....the side parallax will adjust down to 30yds and mounts low enough with the monte carlo stock...the regular Z plex/duplex reticle is small/thin enough for good shooting with the 22and still heavy enough to use in the field and woods.....the Zeiss is dark matte black and isn't as dull as some scopes so it matchs the deep blue of the guns metal well enough........I switched from a 3-9EFR AO Leupold for extra power on the upper end......I have been pleased with it so far.....the other dozen or so I have are Leupold and I have a 4.5x14-50mm AO on another gun that the 50mm doesn't look too large and I can't tell much difference in either of the scopes as I haven't tried any night..real low light shooting with either.....the Leupold 4.5x14 adjust down to 25yds on the AO but the side focus/parallax adjustment on the Zeiss is very nice and works well....the Zeiss seems to be more touchy in parallax adjustment/depth of field-clarity at a set parallax adjustment than the Leupold but for target work that is good...just for field use it takes a little more fine tuning at unknown distances.....HTH..good luck and good shooting!!
