Teslong Borescope

I ran some errands, I found a series of boxes on the porch. I got an ammo shipment, some cleaning stuff from 20/20 concepts (patchworm) and my new Teslong borescope.

I love my original Teslong borescope, but I bought a unit that needs to be run through a laptop. Which make any remote usage very hard. This unit is the 45” flexible unit, that has both its own viewing screen and the cable for the ability to be used with a laptop.

I fired it up and checked the bore on the newer Ruger Precision Rimfire, it looks great. I can see where the handheld mobile unit will be a lot more user friendly than the laptop based unit.

Jut used mine this morning to look at a 1873 Trapdoor Springfield I just bought as a project..Bore is pristine as I was told and the Teslongs work really great..Great product for the money...

I use my at Home on a Computer..I suppose they make stuff to go in a phone or something..But I do not have a cell phone, tech way beyond this guys ability's....Home use is all I need it for..

No cell phone, I'll send you one of my 3, as long as your willing to answer it
LOL

I went this far without one..I can go the rest..And no I would not answer it anyway:)
I love my teslong borescope. I basically bore scope every barrel I clean now. Very handy and providing information that I previously didn't have.
I had one and it was eye opening. Too eye opening! I sold it at a loss and am happier as I don't see what barrels and bores look like. :bthumb:
I guess as they say, out of sight out of mind:)
It's a nice tool to have. Quite enlightening. My 452's chamber looks horrid compared to my 457. Was also able to see the crowns better. Was also able to see the fine surface rust in the bore, and it has led me to developing a habit of pulling an oiled swab-it through the bore at the end of every shooting session to prevent the rust from developing.

It's an excellent way to determine if a gun needs cleaned, and then if you actually got it clean, and not over clean.
I got a cheap non-rigid one off amazon. Not teslong, but good reviews just the same.

I have the app for my phone, but at home I can just plug it into my chromebook and use the camera app already on it.

It let me see that my Walmart special zombie Savage MKII has a decent looking barrel, but my 25 yard groups with cheap ammo already told me that. I think they are worth it, $45 to be able to check out my barrels is good to me.
Lyman Digital Bore Scope.

I looked at those cheap Bore Scopes and saw few advantages. I purchased a Lyman Digital Bore scope that has many advantages over the cheap stuff. I can use it at the range on Battery Packs like I charge my cell phone. I can Capture to memory card and then transfer to my desk top. There's a scale on the probe, so I can tell exactly where any fouling or damage is located. Good clarity on monitor as well as my Desk monitor. Well worth the investment.
Mine are always clean and no scope:confused:

I sure love shooting a clean gun:bthumb:

I've had several borescopes, the Lyman Digital, an Oasis Scientific, a Teslong, and have access to a Hawkeye optical borescope.

The Lyman was the first generation with only 320x240 resolution and the monitor was intermittent right out of the box, then the buttons on the monitor quit, Lyman replaced it, but the replacement had image quality issues, so I returned it and Lyman eventually refunded my money.

The Oasis Scientific is the GB-460 model with wifi connects to my iPhone, or iPad wifi with no problems or my Windoze 10 laptop or desktop using the Windoze Camera driver and captures images or video. Older versions of Windoze will need the free software from Oasis. The GB-460 can also be connected via USB. Mine was on sale for $199 with the wifi bundle when I purchased it.

I bought the Teslong because I needed a semi-flexible, small diameter borescope for some non-firearm related projects. I think it was $50 when I purchased it. It is strictly USB, but it plugs into the Oasis Scientific wifi adapter and works fine with it. Using the wifi adapter I capture images or video direct to my iPhone or Ipad. With the USB, I capture images and video directly to disk using the Windoze camera drivers.

The Hawkeye is better than the digital borescopes, but not $600 better and isn't flexible.

Lyman has a new 'Pro' version for $350, but like the earlier generations it uses proprietary parts, so your stuck with it and has no USB. It requires an app to work with iOS or Android, it also doesn't work with Windoze according to the Lyman website. It now has a 720p camera, same as the Oasis and Teslong.

For less than $50, the Teslong works very well and is more than adequate for any hobby shooter. Mine is 2 years old and has held up fine to some fairly heavy use in less that ideal conditions in dirty, oily, hot engines.

The Oasis works better as a gun barrel borescope than the flexible Teslong. Teslong also sells a rigid version that looks very similar to the Oasis for around $75. The wifi adapter requires an external USB power source, either a PC USB port or a USB power cell. The price for the borescope and wifi adapter is currently $249, but they regularly run sales or coupons.

I think mine was right at 38.00 shipped..The big advantage I see over the others is the price..The Teslong to me has amazing clarity..It is definitely worth the money..I will not pay five times and more for the same movie:)

Yes, but does the more expensive movie theater have more comfortable seats? :D

Just kidding!

I forgot to mention that Oasis Scientific sells the Wifi adapters separately, if you already have a USB borescope and want to use Wifi for an iPhone or iPad. There may be cheaper versions around, but doing a quicky search, most were male USB to add Wifi to a laptop or tablet. These are female USB receivers.

$115 for one with a rechargeable battery.

i have a teslong unit with the screen which is good for finding lost parts, checking drains, spying on terrorist bomb makers and such, and the model they made "for rifles" with the mirror tip and both have worked fine.

as somebody mentioned, some people can think they see a "problem" and this can lead to wild goose chases. for the most part, i don't try to play gunsmith and just use it for comparative purposes.
I have two Teslong bore scopes. The first one has a rigid shaft and plugs into a usb port on a laptop or desktop computer. It's great to see clear images on a large screen, but it's a hassle to deal with a computer.

The second one is wireless and I have a app on my phone and tablet so I can use it easily anywhere as long as it's charged up. It holds a charge well too.

The images are both crystal clear once the mirror is focused to the camera. No way would I pay what some borescopes cost. The Teslongs are well worth the money and the wireless one will be handy when working in the shop.

Several years ago I was building the engine that is in my hot rod and wanted to check the port alignment between the intake and head. My buddy runs a repair shop so I borrowed his Snap On flexible shaft bore scope. It did what I wanted but the images are not near as good as the Teslong and I would guess it costs several times more.
Will either of the 2 Teslong bore scopes (flexible & rigid) fit in a .204 caliber bore?
Both will work with the Wi-Fi box

I have a short fixed one that came with the wi-fi box. Bought a flexible one for my rifles and either will function using the box and my IPad or Android Phone. I use the phone at the range to see how much fouling I'm getting in the chamber 22lr rifles.

I measured the head on the flexible shaft, .197".
