Summit Precision barrel.

I have been looking at the Summit Precision barrels. I'm looking for rear world results with them to decide if I want to purchase one of their barrels or go with a Kidd. I have searched this site and only seen one post where someone had ordered one but no results. I love the looks of one, the price isn't bad, and the weight but if the accuracy isn't there it not a choice anymore. I have one person comment from another forum with positive results. Just curious if anyone else has used their barrels.

I need to step away from the Interwebz... Lol

I'm glad I went for the 18.5" barrel :t
The length looks just right for this build, I think so, lol!
Looks great brother. After mulling over this thread for quite some time, I "bit the bullet" too. Just ordered a matte black 16.1" barrel. Missed out on the sale, but for $230 shipped I'm not complaining at all. If it's as accurate as my Kidd ultralight @ 50yrds, that would be perfect. I'm such a sucker for real carbon fiber. :D

Pics to follow...

Happy shooting and report back with range info as you gather!

Thanks,
Jim

Ahaha!

I was gonna go to the public range today, MD sir, but my friend who is a range officer informed me of the wind conditions!

I wish they open at 6AM but they do at 9AM when the wind starts to blast with gusto
I get it Rick, wind is no fun. It does challenge us though.. :beerchug:

I really had no business getting this, as the Kidd ultralight is phenomenal for me @ 50yrds. After seeing that Summit's are indeed threaded 1/2-28, that pushed me over the edge. I shoot most all my stuff suppressed exclusively. Besides the home defense / self defense 9mm heaters.

So, it was off to the races! Everyone raving about fit/finish/accuracy/customer service on the reviews was good enough for me (well, that and all you hooligans on RFC!) Plus the fact it's $110 cheaper than VQ's offering.. again, not that I needed anything right now! Ha....

Enjoy my friend, that build looks stellar. No doubt.

Thank you, sir!

Up close, it is a discerning as my other builds, as in no dings, scuffs, or scratches.

I am the type who is extremely fussy even with screws; i.e., I deburr and polish each one from head to toe:

Everything has to match with no funny colors astray (just an example of how I build):

Sweet!

Very nice Rick. Like I said, no need for this, but I'm a sucker for CF. Maybe it'll match my tripod legs.. :D

This is what I'll install on

Buy once, cry once tripod setup :Blasting_

Carbon fiber goodness, MD sir :bthumb:

Btw, the SP barrel tenon is smaller than the KIDD's.

I always have trouble getting KIDD barrels into my Tactical Innovations receivers, but the SP went in with a few light taps using a heat gun :t
Good to hear, the Kidd barrel into the Kidd receiver was a SUPER tight thermal fit.

Thanks!

PS - More shots of yours please. I need to live vicariously thought pics until mine gets here.. :D
Was not able to go to the range due to a pinched nerve in my left side.

Kind of like an Iliotibial Band Syndrome I could hardly walk for 2 days, but I am OK now.

Range opens on Wednesday, and I will do my best to be there.

The SP build looks really great with TI Forest Green (it glows and pops out) parts up close.

I have the same TI parts on one of my airgun builds; i.e., rings, rails, etc.:

I have multiple blue and red sets as well.

I dunno, but it kind of makes me want to build a blue 10/22 with a silver Summit Precision barrel

Hope you feel better soon brother Rick. Pain is no fun. I've got chronic neck nerve pain, so I get it. Bummer. Also going in for gallbladder surgery tomorrow morning. Not looking forward to that AT ALL. But needs done. I'll be laid up for a week or so.

Back on topic! I received my matte black SP barrel today. Looks very, very nice. Ran the Otis ripcord through it twice, nice and mirror like shine down the bore. Perfect.

I tried to get my ULW Kidd barrel off, no luck. Used some Kroil to loosen things up and hit with the hair dryer for 5 minutes (my heat gun bit the dust a while back.) It would not budge AT ALL. So, off to HF for a heat gun later this week.

Also, I notice "tapping" the CF tube in the middle of the barrel feels completely different then when you tap the CF closer to either the bore end or tenon end. Almost like there's a little play between the CF tube and the actual barrel. I'm not overly concerned with that, just an observation. Hopefully I'll get it mounted next week and see what she can do. Also ordered an Arken SH4 6-24x50 34mm Gen II scope. Bushnell Match Pro had quite a bit of CA & barrel distortion. Even at 50 yards @ ~ 20x. Oh well, I gave it a try. Back to Bushnell it went today.

Carry on, have fun and cheers to better health!

yeah, too bad that TI dropped the forest green in favor of od green :(

Yes, the bore looks immaculate.

Anyway, I got the pinched nerve from sleeping wrong.

It felt like a stiff neck but so much worse that my iliotibial band became swollen I could barely touch it w/o feeling pain.

No oral meds, just a homeopathic approach, and I am almost as good as new and can touch my toes again with my palm :t

Yeah, it needs to be a heat gun in lieu of a hair blower.

Surgery is kind of scary, MD sir.

I am in my 50s and have not gone under the knife even once, so good luck to you!

Heal fast :bthumb:

CC sir, I was lucky to get a couple 'cuz I noticed that they were no longer replenishing the Forest Green parts.

OD Green is just plain ugly in/to my eyes.

TI is great in Fire Red, Forest Green, and Royal Blue--their purple and Gloss Black are also nice :t
Thanks Rick, I'm 58 and never been cut on either. But I've got to get'r done.

Appreciate the shout out, glad you're feeling better!
Mack, I expect they'll remove your gall bladder with laparoscopic surgery (that's the way mine was done several years ago). If so, your recuperation will be pretty fast. Some soreness, but you should bounce back fast. :):t:t Good luck in any case.

Doug
Yes sir Doug, robotic laparoscopic none the less! Thanks my friend!!

As promised, I went to the range today :bthumb:

Wait for the photos, MD sir.

You should recuperate much faster when you see them :D
OK, so I have not shot PB for almost 2 years---excuses2x :D

Moreover, my trigger would fail to reset at half the time, so I had to give it a nudge.

Anayway, weather was nice with 9-12 MPH winds.

I find this build too light for BR, and I also find the reticle too thick (Burris E1 Fullfield, 4.514x42, Long Range MOA reticle), as I have been accustomed to the very slim. reticles on my Clearidge scopes.

Target set at 50 yards (would have positioned it farther afterwards, but I was already having a hard time with the corpulent reticle):

3 brands of ammo used (SKPM, CCI SV, and Gemtech)--oh, I only had 6 or 7(?) cartridges of the CCI SV left:

Gemtech ammo

I don't have to elaborate much on the next photos, but you will see that the barrel shoots very well:

This one is also SKPM (5 shots):

I used to compete at 100 meters (BR) and offhand shooting (metallic silhouette) with PCP airguns, so I am quite familiar with the basics, but I must admit I am pretty rusty right now and had a hard time focusing and concentrating.

I noticed that my eyes got strained in such a short time, and my heartbeat was just too fast

It was a very short session today, but I am happy to know that the barrel performs with gusto.

Oh, there are no signs pitting on the barrel tenon :t

KIDD and GM barrels seem to pit right after a few shots.
Very nice

Great shooting and pics Rick! Thanks for posting. Feeling better today, sore as all get out though. Each day will bring me back to normal. :gun4:

Thanks for the encouragement!

Blessings to all
Mack, good to know all went well. Knew you'd be sore (after all, they did punch several holes in your belly), but I'm sure you'll bounce back pretty quickly.

I received my new KIDD receiver (and other components for a new build) yesterday. Just for ducks I tried to slide the Summit's barrel tenon into the KIDD receiver and it was no-go, not even close. So, I popped the receiver into the oven at 275, put some anti-seize on the barrel tenon and put the barrel in the fridge. Both for 20 minutes. I then took the receiver out of the oven (had a mallet handy, just in case), took the barrel from the fridge and it just slid right in with perfect alignment. No mallet required. Put it all back in the fridge for about 15 minutes to cool down the receiver. When I took it out the barrel was TIGHT in the receiver. Put the rest of the build together but still awaiting the stock, so no shooting yet. And I took CC's advice and swapped out a KIDD two-stage trigger (with the red blade) from one of my other builds. Will post pics when I have it all together, but that barrel will really set it off! :):gun4::gun4:
