I've been thinking about getting a .22 Mag.........so what's the best bet in Henry on the market now........new or used.

Willing to go to Gun Broker.

Is the large loop a needed option?

Large loop is good for winter and gloves. Otherwse , imho , just more space to cover in order to use the lever.
I bought mine used, got a good deal, An excellent gun.

If it were me I'd be looking for the magnum express in 22wmr. Raised cheek comb, no sights and a scope base. Model H001ME.

I have the small game carbine in both .22 mag, and l.r. They have the heavier octagon barrels and Skinner peep sights along with the large loop lever, and in a shorter package that balances real nice . Both shoot very good, and the only problem I had was that they both needed a slightly taller front sight that Henry sent without a issue due to shooting a little high, and the rear sight as low as it would adjust. Apparently they sent out lots of rifles like that, but they took care of it promptly.

I have not heard of a trigger kit for Henry's 22's, only their Big Boys. Most of their 22's come with reasonably good triggers but are easy to improve with by just polishing the seer and hammer notch.
Got me a Golden Boy in .22WMR and it suits me just fine. Polished the trigger bits a bit and it's smooth as silk

i picked this one up last year. Henry frontier in 22mag. Absolutely love it. Though in all honesty I would have been better off opting for the 22lr version as all I do at this time is punch holes in paper at 25yards. But the 22 mag does offer a satisfying pop and is a bit easier to load with gloves on in the winter than the 22lr.
Accuracy wise of the 4 iron sighted rifles I own this one is the one I shoot most accurately off hand.

When I clear out my safes, this summer maybe, Ive decided that the Marlins, the Brownings and Winchesters, will go. The Henrys will stay.
A. Because the others will net me more money.
B. The Henrys provide as much Lever fun as I want. At the best Value.

I'm a paper puncher too. I'm holding out for a frontier model long rifle in .22 LR. or maybe pump. But none seem to be around. And no I won't do a mail order.
I don't know the Henry specific model number of mine, but I bought the 22WMR with the octagonal barrel, large loop, and Skinner sights from the factory. Very fun to shoot out to 100yrds and I've had no problems in over 700 rounds.
I picked up the 22 magnum express late last year and have had it to the range a couple of times. It is accurate enough for me at 60 yards. I rarely shoot farther than that anyway. It will do 1" groups at that range on a calm day, and it will do it all day long. Action is smooth, trigger is fantastic. Couldn't be happier with it. I threw a set of sling swivels on it and a basic 1" leather sling and called it good.

Love my Henry .22 Mag. It’s taken several coyotes inside of 80 yards with one shot kills for each of them.
