I did not say they met the criteria for Home Beautiful or a GQ magazine spread, they are just there…..
I kinda restrict them to the children's bedrooms…but ONLY along one wall 😨😱

I have stored factory ammunition, and many of my reloads in dry but not climate controlled environments, on shelves in a cabinet, for decades without any change in reliability. I currently store (for the last 10 years) ammo in boxes, in a cabinet, controlling the room humidity to ~50% and temps 65-80 Degrees with no change in reliability. Further protection can't hurt but has been unnecessary in my 65 years of experience.
Store like wine in a cool dry area. Everything else is a waste of time. I have rounds from the late 1970's and early 1980's that are still perfect.

Storing 22 Ammo
I have been Vacuum packing for years. I only put them away when I'm assured they are properly sealed. I opened some I Vacuumed 20 years ago and they look and performed like new.

The only ammo that I have vacuum sealed is that which I carry in my "get home" bag in the trunk of my car. 300 Blackout and 40 S&W. I check for full vacuum monthly and completely replace it every 6 months. WAY too often but this is ammo that I may someday have to stake my life on.
In the house I just store it all on shelves made of cinder blocks and 2x12's in most every closet throughout the residence.

last year I fired several of boxes of Remington 22short purchased in 1963. Worked like new. No one knows how that ammo was stored. It followed us on five years of overseas assignments, in between it laid wherever the movers put it.

Vacuumed sealed squirrels…………….
I have some CCI Stingers that were bought in the 1980s. They were stored in their original plastic boxes inside a metal ammo box in a basement. They shoot fine. Some Soviet 9mm from the late 40s stored the same way didn't fair as well, but I suspect that is the ammo's fault as the Finnish 9mm in the same ammo boxes faired just fine.

Having served for 34 odd years I have seen various types of ammo (from arty/mortar/fullbore to rimfire) stored in all manner of locations and in all manner of ways, some good some terrible.
Once it's stored in air tight or reasonably air tight containers it should be fine.
Forget about temperature, Moisture (dampness/wetness) is your main enemy here.

I had a case of wally World 550 packs from 1989 I forgot about at the back of the closet..... the price on it was 89.97
Some of best ammo I have shot in years I think one dud out of the 4K I shot so far... man I wish I would have bought more to forget about. I did nothing to it except drop it there and pile stuff on it. for 32 years.
I was thrilled to find it, even more thrilled that it was close to flawless.
1.6 cents per round. Those were the days my friend.

I have had a specific brand/flavor of .22 fail in storage -- Win SSHP. I live in a dry climate, and am not convinced it was a humidity issue. I assume Winchester just somehow ended up with a batch of bunk primer compound that expires within 10 years.
Are you a prepper? I've have and have shot .22 ammo that was more than 10 years old with no problems.
Store them in a climate controlled area.
Who knows what the self-life is for .22's?
I have a box of 50 Remington from the 70's I will shoot them when it warms up.

Salt has been used as a fantastic preservative forever. And the water keeps out any airborne contamination agents.
