Spotting Scope Quest

I am also looking for a good spotting scope. I went to the SHOT Show last week and spent a whole day looking at nothing but optics. Now, I am more confused than ever.
Don't rule out the online camera dealers in your quest for a scope. They all stock them.
Where do you shoot ? I live in Atlanta and shoot at Little River Gun Club.

Thanks for the suggestion. My problem is I often over-research when I could be enjoying the sport. I suppose I'll just keep my receipt.
Usually, inside, I shoot at American Classic Marksman up P'tree Ind. at Medlock Bridge. Outside we head out to Charlie Elliot (just east of Conyers). Where's the gun club? Private?

Monsoon, I'm afraid you are questing the impossible dream. Bright, clear, spotting scopes are not cheap.
Go to www.birdwatching.com for a complete rating of decent spotting scopes. This is the best and most comprehensive ratings I have ever seen. They all cost more than a bill, though.

I bought a Winchester 12x50x50 spotting scope at a gunshow last summer. I only paid 65.00 for it and it was a lot better than the other scopes I had seen under a 100.00. I can read the stenciled letters on a transformer 300 yards away. It came with a hard case and a cordura case and tabletop tripod. It is not the top of the line, but it meets my needs and it is compact enough to take out in the field in a fanny pack. If you are looking to see 22 caliber holes at 500 yrds, you will need to spend a lot more money. I recomend looking through any scope before buying it especially in your price range. There is a lot of junk out there, and a lot of it is under 200 dollars.
I tried some of the sub $100 spotting scopes and returned them promptly. I have used the Simmons Hydrosport 20-60x60 (around $200) and liked it. I now own and use a Burris Landmark 20-60x80 and concurr with slingshot's comments: it is large, not waterproof, shakey tripod, too little eye relief, but bright and clear (for economy optics) - I can see .17 holes in paper at 150 yards (in good light). I'm happy enough with mine that I stopped looking for something better.
