Set trigger in hunter class?

1036 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Will Henry
Has anyone used a set trigger in hunter class? How would it be measured?

The weight before it's set?
The weight after it's set?
The weight of what it takes to set it?
The weight of what it takes to set it and after?

While not specifically called out, a set-trigger would be contrary to the spirit of the rules. I would expect any jury at a major match would reject the use of a set-trigger. A club match director probably wouldn't care.
don't remember anything in the rules about a set trigger. the trigger testing is the same for all hunter rifles. cock the rifle and pickup the two pound weight. if the set trigger when cock/ready to fire can pickup a two pound weight you should be good to go.

That's a good point. There's a few "hunting" rifles that have set triggers, so it's not out of the bounds of the spirit of using a hunting rifle, but after being set would probably be less than 2lbs.
Would be fine for use as a standard rifle though.

hunter rifle the trigger must be no less than two pounds and have a working safety. the rifle when in the ready to fire condition must pickup the two pound weight. in standard rifle the trigger must be a safe trigger. any safe weight and does not require a safety.
So the set trigger, unless modified to be 2lbs, would not be allowed in hunter class because nothing stops you from using it during a match. And a 2lb set trigger defeats the purpose of a set trigger

correct. but you can use it in standard rifle.
Whether or not it would affect scoring, I can't say, but most set triggers about double the lock time. WH
