Does it make since to buy a new stock , new barrel and polish up trigger etc or just sale is for $250.00 and put 150.00 with it and buy a Ruger 10/22 LVT ? I hate trying to put a gun together , never works out like I think it

You wont get a target barrel, better stock and a nicer trigger for $150......might be a good option for you.

Agreeing with Kfxguy, the LVT would probably make more sense.

Try just taking the barrel band off and see how she shoots. Many of the older ones responded very well and a few needed to have the barrel channel sanded a bit to float the barrel. May or may not help but its worth a try and costs nothing. You can always put the band back and sell it.

Never thought about sanding off barrel band.
Good idea. Marty
Heres what Id do, sell the old compact, buy the new lvt. Send the barreled action into cpc For the complete tune. At the end you will have one fine gun. You only have to take out one screw , push in a safety 1/2 way and pull the action. Cpc does a chamber cut , a bolt job , and a trigger job , and sends it back all in one piece, then its just put it in the stock and tighten one screw.

Yes I think that is the best thing going for 10/22 rifles

Do this! ☝
This would be the most stress-free, pushing the easy button, guaranteed tack-driver at a great price and without a pile of OEM parts left over.

Without any leftover parts there is no starting point for the next build.
I'd say buy the LVT 10/22 and then keep and tune up the older 10/22 .
You can never have to many 10/22's

thanks for the good info. I think i will buy the new 1022 LTV. Marty
Easy way to free float the barrel is to use a barrel V block with a lift on top, like one from Tandemkross or Tactical Solutions. It puts upward pressure on the bottom of the barrel to prevent droop. I installed one and it works great. It raised the front of the barrel off of the stock by a few thousandths.

The OP doesn’t say how old his 10/22 is. If it is an early 10/22 with a walnut, Overton stock, your answer is 100% correct.

Here's my Overton stock (upgrade courtesy of Evan aka ek-marlin-424). Hope I didn't ruin it taking it from original.
