S&W 2206

New member here. Recently picked up a 2206 Target model with the adjustable rear sight. Are there any low profile red dot mounts for this model that exist? I was thinking something that utilized the existing holes for the rear sight. Also, would a slide mounted red dot be too much weight on that little slide to allow proper cycling? Any resources/thought are much appreciated.

Do you have the actual 2206TGT, or just a 2206 with the target adjustable rear sight?

I have a red dot on a rail mounted to the existing drilled and tapped holes on the muzzle of my 2206TGT. The rail is a Weaver 407S available on eBay.

I also milled a slide and made my own mount for a red dot on the slide, currently on my test 422. There was concern about the additional weight, it cycles fine, I took a lot of metal off of the slide to help compensate for the additional weight. I don't have a pic of the gun assembled, but here is a pic of the slide. I cut down a weaver 407s for the mount, drilled and tapped to the slide.

Here is a pic I have from someone that used a dovetail mount on a 2213, no idea what the mount is.

Thank you very much for the info and pics. I have the standard 2206 with adjustable rear sight. Your TGT looks awesome and your milled slide looks super clean. I had read that the Weaver 407S would work so I suppose drilling and tapping my gun is an option. Would love to know how that 2213 cycles with a mount and red dot. Any idea if this series of pistols uses a common S&W dovetail?

Thanks, the red dot high and forward takes some getting used to, but works really well. Same for the slide mounted dot. I had read something about the red dot on the slide causing cycling issues, that was why I focused on trying to remove as much as possible weight wise. With the rail and optic it ran without any issues. In hindsight I think a dovetail mount would be just fine, but you may have to fine tune your recoil spring to accommodate for the weight.

I don't have any details on the dovetail, but I do have slides, and sights I can measure in the next week or so.
That would be super helpful. I’m going to get my calipers out as well, but don’t have many other factory S&W slides/sights to compare to.
