Posm; Tough luck for sure. A couple of questions; How new is this Ruger? How much have you shot it?

Ruger 77's generally shoot much better than what you are reporting. However the triggers can be a little raspy if you are not used to them. They can be smoothed, but you may not time before you leave.

I am wondering if you maybe you need to spend more time shooting just the 77/17 to get used to the feel. .17HMR ammo may be hard to come in your area, but I would suggest you take only the 77/17 to the range and get used to it. You already have the confidence to do well with the .22 centerfires.
