Went to my favorite toy store yesterday afternoon to go fetch a BX trigger for an older 10/22 that i adopted last weekend. And, while i was there, the owner drags me over to the rimfire section to show me new arrivals. He knows how to exploit my weakness, which means he shows me something cool at a fair price.

Among the incoming new stuff was a Bergara BXR semi-auto with carbon barrel...gotta say it felt decent. I've been happy with Bergara's bolt guns, & was tempted. His prices are almost always good , and usually comparable with what stuff would cost online...in fact sometimes his prices are cheaper than buying online after paying shipping. Was not really looking for that one, but was intrigued.

And, the other one that just arrived....a Ruger Custom Shop 10/22 Competition...guess i never noticed that these existed, as my tastes usually go to bolt guns. The custom shop gun felt to be 1/2lb or so heavier than the Bergara , and about a hundred bucks higher, but stock design fit me better. And, the trigger was better. And, Ruger gives you a Gen-Yoo-Wine plastic hard case with that uber-cool Ruger emblem on it, and a classy little medallion to go with your custom shop gun. So, i decided the better fitting stock & the better trigger was worth it.

In theory i was supposed to be saving my loot so that when wandering around the big April gun show there will be some spending cash in the pocket, just in case something pops up...since this is my 5th unplanned purchase in 5 weeks, at this point its pretty clear i have ZERO willpower. And, another one is supposed to be here next week.

Got home a bit early yesterday & stuck a Hawke 2-7x AO on it, glass has a mil-dot reticle, and focuses all the way down to 15 feet. Hope to make it out shooting this coming weekend.

Nice find! What ammo do you plan on using?
i shoot a lot of Sub-HP's, so going to give it the test run to see what it prefers...in my subsonic HP stash i have RWS, CCI, Winchester, & S-K. Starting to get low on both Eley, and PMC Moderators, so hoping it'll like any of the former ones.

I'll post some group pix when i get it on the bench.

If you ever take the stock off let us know how the fit and finish of the machined receiver is. Is the bolt any smoother feeling than a stock 10/22? Glad you found one. I haven't seen one in the flesh ever. Only pictures.
bolt feels smoother & action seems to cycle easier than stock guns...maybe better polishing?

This was the first & only one i've ever seen, the stock grip has a open feeling contour & less of a vertical style grip...i tend to like open grip angles. It feels good.

cheekpiece adjustment is nice, scope is mounted low on this one so i'm only 1 "notch" up from the lowest setting on the cheekpiece, but i can see where it would work well for guys that mount larger glass higher.

barrel is deeply fluted, and threaded, and comes with a brake installed:

That's a nice looking rifle, glad you got it. Those good buys always come in spurts or bunches don't they. PMC Moderators really takes me back. I'm really low on those myself and down to a case and a half of Dyna-Points. In the day if you had a rifle that wouldn't shoot those it wouldn't shoot. Dyna points were 95 bucks a case around here when they were on sale at K Mart.
we moved a year or so back, and an ammo can i opened had a several old bricks of .22LR...i guess i had stashed those away & kind of forgot. Bricks of 500count W-W super-X HP's had a sticker on them for $12- $14 a brick.

I kind of remember someone saying Moderators were Eley Primed, but not sure on that...i have a couple of .22's sighted with those, they are one of the quieter subs i've used.
