romanian trainer rifle issue

I have had my trainer for about two years...gave like 40 bucks for it, VERY ACCURATE! EVEN WITH THE CHEAPEST AMMO! however, about one in 5 shots, you pull the triger, and hear the click..nothing..open and re-close the bolt again..nothing once more...look at the rim of the shell, and it is dented just like is should be..what is my problem here? Spring dead? Firing pin screwed up? anything you know that can help me would be greatly appriciated!

acu-man77,

There are three possibilities that come to mind immediately:
1. Bad ammo; have you tried another brand of ammo....? ?
[ "cheap ammo" : try some CCI Mini-Mags for a change ]
2. Cosmoline in the bolt; did you thoroughly clean your bolt when you bought the rifle.....? ? They were 'dipped' in cosmoline for preservation, and that is INSIDE the bolt....! !
3. You have a "peened" chamber from dry firing the rifle; look for a dent on the breechface of the barrel at the 9 O'Clock position*.
[ * corrected from 12 to 9 O'Clock (thanks to snobird) ]

There are other possibilities, but these should be ruled-out first.

Good Luck.....! ! :)

BigMike is probably on to something with the cosmoline in the bolt. There was a big difference between the strength of the firing pin stirke (judging by its sound anyway) between 'new' and clean.

The bolt is fairly easy to put back together, but pay close attention when you take it apart. It will go back together, and fire, if you assemble it incorrectly, but the safety won't work.

If you need any assistance I, or someone else here, will probably be able to wirte out some instructions.

I'd definately clean out the bolt first. That crap they use is thicker'n week old snot. I soaked mine in carb cleaner first then stripped it to clean out the congealed goop. Then a few drops of light oil is all thats needed....If that don't work, try the Mini-Mags!

Hello- Good advice from all so far. Be sure the bolt mechanism is clean with either brake/ carburator cleaner or by dis-assembling. The cosmolene/grease they used can really gunk things up.
The firing pin on these little Romanians hits 3 hours earlier- at the 9 o'clock position. A nick in the breach face from dry firing is a posibility. Worth a look. pl
