The only way to KNOW would be to zero in at whatever range you think you'll be shooting at, then shoot at the other two distances and record the results.

Suggestion: Zero in your outfit at 50 yds, then, on a clean target, shoot a 5-shot group at the same distance. Circle this group with a pen or whatever and write "50" next to it.

Next, take the same target and put it up at 100 yds, and shoot another 5-shot group. Circle this group, and label it also.

Repeat this process at 25 yds. Save this target for future reference.

Have fun!

Hi bentley:

Here is the info you wanted. This trajectory is based on a sight height of 1.5 inches. This is factory based info, so I would check after sighting in.

Rimfire ... (and other) ballistics programme

Hi,

You might try the JBM Ballistics programme . . . it's available online most of the time. I have used this one for some considerable time and have yet to flaw it.

If you use the "Basic" version of the programme . . . much simpler . . . and don't know the correct BC for your smallbore ammo, then use a Ballistics Coefficient of 0.125. This may not be exact for your specific ammo brand but you will find that the BC is not an overly critical component of the analysis . . . trying a few other values in that "neighbourhood" will soon convince you of this.

You will find the programme at the following location on the Web.

http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/ballistics/ballistics.html

Hi bentley:

You are very welcome. If my brain had been working I would have used a screen shot and posted that. But that's what happens when ya get old, the brain just stops working.........

Hey Fuzzy:

You are correct about the BC value not having to be dead on. However, this info can be found on most ammo makers web pages, and or by ordering cataloges. When I built my program I added all this info into to its data bases, so my customers would not have to go and hunt for it themselfs, however, the info is free and it can be found.

BigMike,

Thanks for the kind words! I certainly don't mind a little effort for my fellow RF shooters..... ESP. if someone tells me it's appreciated!

tomtips,

I use a Windows-based freeware program called PointBlank v1.8a..... and I really like it. It's "aimed at" (pun intended, of course ;) ) centerfire, but works fine for RF if you shorten the default target distance to 50 or 100. You can also export and import Load Tables, and therefore exchange with others..... pretty neat!

Hang tight 'til this eve., and I'll see if I can dig up the link to download it...... if not, I still have it in ZIP form, and can email it to you, if your ISP accepts fairly large attachments..... it's 211k, IIRC....

Here's a screen shot from the Help menu:

PointBlank

is a great program, and you can't beat the price. I've been using it for three or four years, now. I believe I got the link from Varmint Al's site.
