I have a reminghton 597 22lr, I'm trying to build it to be a target gun. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good aftermarket barrel to use for it. Thank you!

Beautiful gun! That blue really pops. Here is your link below for the only barrel maker left. He has been doing runs once a year. Turns out he’s taking orders now.

How accurate is it with the stock barrel? My son has one and we use to shoot empty 12ga shot shells at 50 yards. Stand them up in a row and shoot them. He always use to beat me with his 597 and I used a stock 10/22. I was always impressed with that 597.

Most 597's are very accurate from the factory. But the Jarvis is a very good barrel and jard or VQ hammer kits is also important

It's pretty accurate and im vary impressed by it, but it has had a lot of rounds through it and has gotten some small rust on it and why replace it with a stock one when I can get one that's mabey a bit better.

I’ll second Flysalots’ VQ hammer recommendation 1000% Thats a must do when you add the barrel. After that buy some JB Weld Professional (best price option) and do some glass bedding. the last few guns I’ve bedded I did it in sections, did the rear first, then the front, then the sides. I still have to tap the receiver out still today. It really helped get the most potential out of the barrel. Still want more use the Mcarbo trigger kit In conjunction with the VQ hammer.

I do plan on glass bedding it and geting the vq hammer for sure.

I cannot tell you exactly what year it started but I think around 2006, but Remington started to use 5R rifling in the 597.
So, your options on drop-in barrels are limited. However, notice that the barrel threads into the "tombstone" which is then clamped to the receiver. You can purchase a blank barrel from your preferred custom barrel shop and have a gunsmith fit it to the rifle. I had a Lilja fit to mine with very good results, you can find a target here in the 1/2" challenge thread shot with it.
