Remington #4 (I think)

Remington made a falling block rifle in .22 caliber. It has long been discontinued but occasionally I will see one at a gun show. I believe the model I am talking about is a #4. Am I correct? Anyway, this little rifle caught my eye and I began wondering if it would make a good plinker (and safe as well!) I would be shooting the lr in it, but would it safely handle high and hyper velocity ammunition? Any comments would be appreciated. TY ;)

Absolutely NOT...! ! :eek:

Shooting anything but .22 LR* Standard Velocity ammo in these antique guns is extremely fool hardy; many parts were made of cast iron, and over the years, corrosion has invisibly crept along the grain boundaries, making them very fragile...! ! :eek:

* Check the chamber markings: some were chambered for .22 Short [SV], or .22 Long [SV]; not .22 LR...! ! :(
