Remember Gatewood stocks?

As you can see in the thread link below Gatewood produced a great offhand stock. Owners of his offhand stock had nothing but good things to say about it.

As he stopped making stocks several years ago, I wonder if anyone else ever copied his design?

Don't know when it all went off the tracks but OldSwede had him do a Brno Stecher 3S that is gorgeous.

I wouldn't copy his design without his permission. He was nice enough to spend some time on the phone with me years ago.
he also did some simple, but still elegant, designs

Made some pretty stocks for sure. I was taking a break from rimfires when the meltdown ensued, only see remnants of it around the web. It's a bummer as we've not maintained many of the one off custom stock makers in the 10/22 sphere. In the early 2000s we had a good run of some spectacular wood.
I miss Claude...

I have 5 stocks that Claude made. Four different patterns and each one is a gem. Unless Claude got back into the 10/22 stock making business again, I sincerely believe that I have to last one he made before moving on in his career. I made a post about this several years back if anyone wants to search it out.

I'm fortunate to have quite a collection of 10/22 stocks & I really miss the craftsmen like Claude Gatewood, Mike Turner, Dan Hawkins w/ Hipshot, and others! Those folks were not only artisans but visionaries and gave us some awesome stock designs.:bthumb:

yes, as much as I like my Gatewood, I absolutely love my Hawkins/Hipshot Raptors..and even though I have four of them in various colors of laminate, I wish they (or the company that produced them later) had offered some in fancier woods
