Is it possible to find a Lyman [or other] sight for a 39a?

I've been looking for a while, and about to give up.

I would almost consider buying a gun that has the sight just to get i

I put a Williams 5D on my 39M.

I also put a Williams 5d on mine. I did have to make a plastic shim to put the peep more in the center of my receiver. Not sure but i think the shim was about 1/8" thick.
I have a few of the lyman sights and have been happy with their performance, whether they are steel or the newer aluminum body sights. The model # you seek is a 66mc. Good luck with your search.
A 5D with a knobbed gib lock screw is pretty versatile.
I have one as a back up.

Do you have to use a taller front sight when using the Williams 5d ? Also I assume it uses the factory drilled and tapped holes on receiver for mounting? Been thinking about trying one.

5d have same elevator height as the screw elevator mods.
I had the Lyman 66MC on my Mountie and like the side button where you can quickly change the elevation vs screwing it up/down. However, there is a lot of play in the sight where you can wobble it back and forth. Not sure it affects anything as it seems to wobble in the down position after adjustment.
The Lyman or Williams Foolproof are still being made I think, but probably not all the time. Ebay may be your best bet to find one.
My 39a has a very low scope base on top, and a Williams Foolproof GR sight...which clamps on grooved receivers. That setup works well, but may be a bit tall for a factory front sight??
The 5D mounted right up to the factory drilled and tapped holes on the side of the receiver on my 39M. It's hardly a new Marlin though. I bought it new when I got out of the Navy back in '81. :)

Nope. I didn't have to add a taller front sight. I used the 2 tapped holes on the side of the receiver. Now if you use a sight that sits on top of the receiver than yes i think you will have to change the front sight. I think i have heard that people who used a Skinner sight have had to change their front sight.

Thanks. Makes since now that I think about it. Being mounted on the side of the receiver, it would be about in the same plane as the factory leaf sight. All the peep sights I've had experience with in the past mounted on top requiring a taller front sight.

A backup? Have you ever had one fail? That's hard to imagine.

For a scope of course.
chickenhater is right. The lyman #66mc is for the Marlin 39a. However. the 66LA is just about the same sight. (if not the same) I have the 66MC and the 66LA on several of my 39a's and can see no diff. The 66LA shows up on ebay quite offten. The 66MC almost never.

You know, the Skinner peep sight is available, and they have a brass front sight too.

If you are after a set-it-and-forget-it receiver sight then you may not do better than a Skinner.
I'm always adjusting.

Have you looked at getting a redfield 75 and and adaptor from Out Back Gun Parts?

I have this setup on a marlin 39a and a Marlin 1894 45LC. You can find the Redfield fairly often on eBay and the adapter is about $40.
I went with a Skinner peep and replaced the front sight with a Lyman globe sight. I had to order a long stem peep and shorten it to work, wouldn’t go low enough. Regular stem wouldn’t go high enough.
