Rebarreling a B 14 R

900 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Grantmac
Good morning, everyone!

I finally decided to give up and rebarrel my B14 R - love the action, of course because it reminds me of my first love:cool: - Remington 700 in .308, but it's just too inconsistent, even with its "preferred" - what else 🤦‍♂️ - Lapua X Act, with the current overall RC well exceeding 1,000. I tried the OEM stock and the MDT XRS chassis, both with various torque settings.
Also, at this point I have enough sunk costs in this rifle that another grand or thereabouts almost makes economic sense:cool:

Can you recommend a gunsmith that specializes in 22 lr rifles or at least doesn't shy away from them - I called Long Rifles Inc., and a tech said - "we've never done one, 22s are a PITA, but I guess we could try it:ROFLMAO:🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️", that's why I'm saying that?

TIA!:)

IBI barrels can set you up with a pre-fit with a barrel nut so you can install it yourself, if you want to go that way. 12 or 16 twist.

Thanks - honestly this could be above my skill level - never done that, plus I'd also include some accurizing in the project...

Russell from Crossroads Precision Rifles has done a fair bit of work on B14R's also - May be worth contacting him or Kenny at Desert Precision Gunworks.

Yes, that's correct - I've seen B14R's that he has re-barrelled on his FB page.

Installing a pre-fit with nut is dead easy. Don't let it intimidate you.

Thanks - I just might go for it, since wherever I send it it'll almost certainly take 6 to 9 months, and I won't be able to stand it and buy another one along with the pre-fit barrel - yes, I like it that much, which is quite dysfunctional considering its erratic performance... what's your cell if I need help?:ROFLMAO:🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
If you have issues IBI have excellent customer service, but honestly you won't need it.
