I have Cooper Arms model 57-M, Montana Varminter. It is chambered in 17 HMR. It has only a couple hundred rounds through it. I would like to rebarrel with a match barrel in 22LR. I am looking for a smith that someone can recommend. If I can’t rebarrel I’ll put it up for sale. My preference is to rebarrel.
I appreciate any recommendations on a gunsmith Wood Bag Fashion accessory Leather Shotgun

Sell it and buy what you want. The caliber change is not as easy as you think. It would only be easy if it was a 17m2, or if you wanted to go to 22 magnum.
The barrel change alone might cost you 700.
The 17hmr has a longer bolt travel and longer port, plus the ejector is located in a different place than the 22lr. Then you need the magazine housing, magazine, and bottom metal.

Thanks for that advice. I guess It goes up for sale. Such a beautiful piece.
When you've been here at a least 30 days and have at least 30 posts, the Trading Post/Classifieds is your friend. The .17 HMR is pretty popular so a Want to Trade for a comparable Cooper in .22LR might yield what you're looking for. Otherwise, a Want to Sell ad could get you on the way to having the $ to buy what you're looking for. Call Cooper and see what they can do. I know this is apples and oranges but they told me when I shoot out my .204 it would cost me $125 to rebarrel it. Worth a call .

Cooper is in a state of flux now, since the sale of the company.
Even for the same caliber, no one is providing and installing a new barrel for 125.
The OP’s 17hmr is a totally different gun from a .22 version. Only the stock is the same.
