I love the hex head barrel screw(and hex sight screws) and I just acquired a 1985 model with the slot heads. My question: can I update to the newer hex heads or am I stuck with the old style? Thanks for any help. Regards

yes, you can...

the pre-92s can be fully "upgraded" to current buckmark specs, if desired. you can change the screws (barrel mount and sight base) to the current hex type vs. the old slotted.

i changed my sight base screws from the old slot type to the newer hex type.

Hi, I was just wondering why anyone would prefer the hex over the slotted screws. I have the hex sight base screws but I would prefer the slotted variety as I wouldnt have to worry about rounding off the hex. I just presumed all the sight base screws were hex. Good news for me i guess.

Good point greenzx9r, as the slots have served well for years as long as the proper screwdriver is used and kept maintained. In my case over the years I have found that most quality scope rings(Badger)and action screws/bolts went to hex. I believe that if you know if your hex is inch or metric and you have a collection of good brand wrenches they are superior as long as the hex is clean/degreased. I use a torque wrench to achieve the same tightness every time.
