I shoot a 1022, 881 Marlin b/a and ordered a CZ457 synthetic. I've been using just a Caldwell front and rear bag but wanted to upgrade so just ordered the following today:What rifle are you shooting? I have been looking at protektors to replace the rear caldwell...i woild love to know your thoughts...which one did you get?
Thanks:bthumb:Never done any treatment in 20 plus years on the 4 rests/bags I have, still looking good and no degradation of the leather other than a bit of darkening from hand oils and lots use. A bit of light leather dressing would be fine.
ThanksI havent used anything on mine but they dont get any abuse, pretty gentle use actually.
Ive never heard if they are oil-tanned or chem-tanned but that may be the deciding factor on what to use.
Thanks. To be honest I really hated to spend that much on a rest but after shooting off my range buddy's Caldwell rock and Edgewood rear rest the writing was on the wall. I'm just glad the wife never sees any bills or receipts.Good choices 1Rudedawg those will serve you well.
You could use a micro-crystalline wax, such as Renaissance Wax, to protect the bags. I wouldn't use anything that would soften the leather and cause it to lose it's shape or stiffness.I just bought a front and rear Protektor bag and wanted to know if anyone who owns these bags uses a leather protectant/conditioner on yours and if so what brand product do you recommend?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks. Yeah I can see where softening the leather would not be advisable on a rifle rest for sure. I was just curious so will just use and enjoy them as is.You could use a micro-crystalline wax, such as Renaissance Wax, to protect the bags.
