I just bought a front and rear Protektor bag and wanted to know if anyone who owns these bags uses a leather protectant/conditioner on yours and if so what brand product do you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Never done any treatment in 20 plus years on the 4 rests/bags I have, still looking good and no degradation of the leather other than a bit of darkening from hand oils and lots use. A bit of light leather dressing would be fine.

What rifle are you shooting? I have been looking at protektors to replace the rear caldwell...i woild love to know your thoughts...which one did you get?
I shoot a 1022, 881 Marlin b/a and ordered a CZ457 synthetic. I've been using just a Caldwell front and rear bag but wanted to upgrade so just ordered the following today:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MGB13Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JD56CFA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 & https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S5W78A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't received them yet so really can't give you an answer.

I havent used anything on mine but they dont get any abuse, pretty gentle use actually.
Ive never heard if they are oil-tanned or chem-tanned but that may be the deciding factor on what to use.

You could use a micro-crystalline wax, such as Renaissance Wax, to protect the bags. I wouldn't use anything that would soften the leather and cause it to lose it's shape or stiffness.

Thanks. Yeah I can see where softening the leather would not be advisable on a rifle rest for sure. I was just curious so will just use and enjoy them as is.

Considering that we dont tend to use them a lot 'out in the weather' they may outlast most of us.
Maybe find a couple heavy duty plastic bags just the right size to slip over when set up when not in use in case the weather turns?
Some of us use such for spotting scopes already.

YMMV

My last 3 range sessions I dumped my Caldwell rear bag with the "ears". And tried out the Protektor "Standard" -pictured below. I was pleasantly surprised. I worries the lack of "ears" would cause issues but the stock set up nicely amd glided well on it. There is just enough give in the bag for the buttstock to form a channel to glide in.
