Problem after installing VQ mods . . . .

My first post, so be easy . . . .

I bought a new stainless 10/22 about a month ago and have fired about 750 rounds (various brands) through it.

Today, I installed the following mods:
VQ All-Metal THM Carbon Barrel w/Compensator
VQ Bolt Assembly w/Titanium Firing Pin and Sharp EDM Extractor
VQ TG2000 Trigger Assembly

When the weapon was stock, I had zero feed problems. After these mods, I cannot feed any ammo, regardless of brand. I have 3 new factory magazines and none of them feed.

The round chambers about 1/2 or sometimes about 3/4 into the barrel. I forced a round in (one time) and had a very difficult time getting it out.

I have seem some suggestions in other threads, but how do I break the new barrel in if I cannot get a single round to chamber? I have also tuned the magazines, and still no success.

Now I am wishing that I never modded the weapon in the first place. Why mess with a good thing, right?

Any information, suggestions, or ridicule (if that is your flavor) would be helpful.

Did you clean the bore and chamber of the preservative before you started shooting it? That stuff can be nasty and really ball up the works sometimes..

Ron
On rimfires you don't really break the barrel in like a centerfire you just let the action parts lapp themselves together.....as the other post suggest clean the chamber and recheck the alignment of the barrel in the action and the extractor in the groove for the extractor in the barrel......make sure the extractor is moving and the spring is letting it swivel in and out in the slot.....and the 10-22 magizine is the first part of the feeding ramp/throat for the chamber and check to make sure the magazine is fitting in the gun properly and all the way in and loose enough to selfalign in the gun......take the gun out of the stock and see if the magazine fits in the action and see if it will feed a shell...IN A SAFE AREA with the action out of the stock and if it will then the problem is in the stock fit or magazine fit in the stock......HTH...good luck and good shooting!!!
txgixer - Welcome to RFC

What kind of ammo are you shoot'in.

Some barrels can be very pickey
as to what they like.

Exp. if it has a match chamber.
QUESTION: Can you feed a round straight into the chamber with your finger with the bolt locked open. If not then clean the chamber real good. If you can look to make sure the bottom edge of the chamber is not razor sharp. Let us know what you find.

No, I cannot feed a round into the chamber with my finger. The slug is too large for the chamber. This is with ANY brand of ammo, match or not, I have tried almost a dozen brands since yesterday.

One smith today told me to VERY lightly Dremel the chamber with a fluted bit and then finely sand the chamber until I get a good fit.

I am not sure I want to try this one a $200+ barrel that I just installed yesterday.

I have cleaned and checked the action repeatedly, so I am still at a loss on the parts. I even purchased a brand new Ruger mag and rebuilt as per the instructions on this site and nothing.

One other problem is this:
When the mag is installed, it will NOT drop out of the weapon. It is that tight of a fit. I wonder if this might be causing the chambering problem as well. But, even with a finger you cannot chamber a single round either.

Errr........ again, I wish I never messed with the rifle.
This is not by any chance a Ruger 22 magnum you have is it.
My advice is to call VQ and talk to Scott or Nic and tell them what you are running into. It sounds like you have an extremely tight chamber. The Magazine may be dragging due to the barrel being too deep in the receiver. I'm curious if you've gotten a bad barrel or a shallow chamber. I definately would not touch the barrel as far as modifing until I talked to Volquartsen.
Volquartsen>> 1-712-792-4238, Scott ext 11 or Nic ext 14.
Send the barrel back!!!!!!!

Contact VQ about the problem.
Sounds like something is wrong with the chamber and they should make it right.

Barrels that cost that much should
work and work right.

The barrel is marked as a 22LR but that could be a mistake. I will call VQ tomorrow and see what info I can get.

Thanks for the posts from everyone.

I have called and left a message for NIC. Hopefully, they will have a solution.
gxtixer,
I talked to Scott today and sent him this thread. He is going to get in touch with you ASAP. Bill
problems with barrel

If you could email me at [email protected] I can get you instructions on how to send the rifle into us at no charge and we will get this looked at for you. It is hard to say what is going on w/o seeing the actual barrel but we will get it taken care of for you.

If you could email your address along with the email I will get a call tag on its way to you.

Scott
I's also suggest that you take advise VERY guardedly from a "gunsmith" who advocates a burr bit in a Dremel tool being used in a chamber.

Ron
Dr. Dremel

Man, no kidding about that. The idea of taking a new VQ barrel and reaming out the chamber with a dremel makes me shiver.

My Zeiss scope will have a home when the rifle returns. w00t
