Guys,

My wife has gotten enthusiastic about shooting - so I bought her a Walther P22 because it fit her small hand beautifully.

After she passes her Handgun Safety Certification (Republik of Kalifornia), she'll be heading to the local shop to buy me a Neos.

I've seen the marketing materials that claim there's a 7" barreled version, but have yet to see one in person or for sale. Is this a vapor-gun? My use is going to be target shooting and figured it wouldn't hurt to have a longer sight radius.

I will download the postings and do the work outlined, but is there anything I should look out for?

Thanks,

-Mark

A lot of questions, the NEOS is fairly new and it catches peoples' attention. If you are downloading the trigger job postings, please exercise good shop practices. Spare parts must cross the pond.

In your locale, there's a private range that hosts an annual Steel Challenge Match, otherwise known as the Bang, Clang n Burp match. Local IPSC or Steel shooters should know who to contact. J & M Gunsmithing may be knowledgeable

Welcome to RFC buckelew, no crying if your wife waxes your butt. :D

Potential Neos

Buckelew, welcome to the club! I think you'll like the Neos just fine. 38super's guidance and advice is excellent. Just remember when working any trigger, "Moderation in all things". Mine is now about 2.5 pounds, and I don't think about it when I shoot as I did with the 5 pounds when it was new. Much, much smoother also.

I too will get my lady a P22 because it fits her so much better. I have located one at a dealer with the -A mags. Neat little handgun.

I'm not aware of a 7" barrel option for the Neos. I have the 6" and it seems to be an adequate sight radius. I have now added the red dot, which I like very much. In any case, the gun has performed wonderfully and drawn much attention at the range. Shooters with much more experience than I really like the way it handles and shoots.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your input; I'll go ahead and get the Neos with the 6" barrel.

As for the modifications, being a manufacturing engineer; I'm a firm believer in "more isn't always better". But I've worked with those who firmly believe that 'if 0.016" is good, then 0.032" must be twice as good'. I assembled the pictures and instructions into a single document and will be looking for an exploded diagram. If all else fails, I'll model the Neos in 3-d for solid modelling practice.

Not being a "handgun" guy, there really isn't any ego involved. I like shooting with her and want her to excel. However, that being said; I was a motorcycle safety instructor when I met her and don't think a man should teach their spouse how to do ANYTHING - unless they want to introduce a lot of stress into a relationship. I'm working with her on safety issues and on shooting basics. I also suggest that she watch people who shoot better than I and look at their technique. A friend at work will be bringing me the name of an excellent shooting instructor who runs a course that we'll both go to. If all else fails, a friend of the family is an arms instructor for PD's...last I heard.

I don't consider myself to be a handgun guy - yet. I shot in smallbore rifle competitions and earned a scholarship to do that in college. So I'm OK with a rifle. I look forward to becoming more competent with a handgun. The "bang, clang, and burp" sounds just like what the doctor ordered.

Great forum. Thank you again for your input. I was more than happy to paypal in my $20 at the beginning of this session.

You're welcome Mrs & Buckelew,

Almost fergot, Jim O'Young is the match director. A fanatical Steel shooter, I've seen him shoot (don't blink). A good core of shooters hang with Jim, always fun when they visit So Cal.

Mr. Super,

Work on my Ducati, work on my other vehicles, looking forward to working on my guns. Once I think I know what's going on with the NEOS, I'll check over the P99 drawings and see what I can do to improve the trigger on that.

Only shooting I've done is paper, real estate (artillery), or gallon milk containers with a candle behind them. Wooohoo! I'll look up Mr. O'Young.

I work with some guys who are really into shooting and look forward to learning more about handgun shooting and fun-types of competitions (other than making holes in paper). When I was working on an automation project in Tucson, one of the guys competed in shooting bowling pins off of an aluminum table. Cool.

Anyway, dinner's ready. I appreciate your assistance. And a very good friend of mine lives in Gardena, so you must be a good guy.

No need to call me Mr, I was as enlisted Phantom Phixer.

I see you are an experienced big bore shooter. If you can square gap piston rings, a NEOS sear is not much difference. Just a little harder metal. FYI, Jim is Irish in name only.

Famous quote about F-4's "JP-4 goes in, NOISE comes out."
