Played with Kidd classic rifle at long distance PRS matches and it can't cut it.

Hello,
I had hopes for this kidd at PRS matches but not going to do it. It loves SK red box, half inch groups at 50 and 1.2inch at 100yds. Its great for 100 and in but much past 150 it can't hang with the bolt guys. I know I will here that it can but I have watched it first hand and like i said great for 100 and in and thats it. So its has to go. I love the gun and it a great shooter but it just not as consistent longer ranges. I always wanted one to try and I gave it a fair shake but my bergara b14r outshoots it at any distance. .

Thanks
Jon

Wonder why a gun that shoots tight at 50 or 100 yards doesnt at further distances?
I wish I knew cause I wanted to use it as my primary competition gun. I love it and it’s a great squirrel gun. I have tried a lot of different types of ammo and the eley stuff is good too but it has feeding issues at times. The sk doesn’t at all. I know it is more hold sensitive than my bergara so that could be causing it some. I have it in a titan stock and am thinking about putting in in a PDC chassis to see if that helps. I hope I can make it work cause it is a great gun and a blast to shoot. Most of the matches I shoot are not a national match just local stuff here in Oklahoma. We usually have a stage or 2 that stretches the range a little so if I can just get really solid with the closer stuff it might not be such a difference. I am up for any ideas or help to improve it.
Thanks
Jon
Lock time, it becomes especially noticable from less stable positions.
Going to try and shoot my KIDD through a local NRL style match this weekend. I know there is one stage that goes out to 200. I'm not expecting to do all that well since it is my first match, but hopefully the gun runs the whole time. I will have my bolt gun as a back up just in case.

I think there is a problem with your rifle or ammo specifically. Not saying the best semi's are as precise as the best bolts, but 10/22's absolutely can be made to hit PRS targets at PRS/NRL distances.

It does but past 150 not consistent. Everyone I told I was getting a Kidd for matches laughed and said use that money for ammo and save the frustration. Almost everyone said they are not consistent enough to keep up with bolts. I didn’t believe them but after seeing it first hand I believe them now. In a true nrl22 match 100yds and less it will do just fine but we don’t do nrl22 prs only. I love the gun but this is tough enough without having a gun that isn’t consistent enough. If kidds or any 10/22 was good enough to compete with the big boys you would see more in the top 5 or even top 10. You just don’t. I have decided to quit putting money in it and sell it and get a vudoo. Great rifle for nrl22 not so much for longer ranges.
There are quite a few 10/22 shooters (with aftermarket barrels) that are consistently top shooters. At targets beyond 300 yards. With the right ammo. In MARS PRS competition last year for the "800" club, the top bolt shooters, after winning four matches with their bolt guns, picked up 10/22's and won another four. Just saying. And again, NOT saying the best 10/22's are as precise as the best bolt guns.

BTW - I have seen many Vudoo's shooters that don't seem to be competitive, and I can't could count how many times Vudoo/RimX shooters have feeding/jamming issues during a match.

So . . . we'll have to agree to disagree?

Kinda vague on the description of ‘kidd’. Is this a factory built ‘Kidd’ (that‘s a capital K as it’s the man’s name)
is this a 16” barrel w/no accuracy guarantee?

is this a put together?

it’s a poor craftsman who blames his tools. Kidd rifles win matches and compete well with similar rifles in class. There are so many variables past 150 yards,

well I’ll leave that alone.

Hitting targets well past 100 yards is always a gremlin. Finding the right ammo and weather conditions will be ideal way past 100yds. Your best 50 yard ammo may not be good at 100+ so finding ammo that will is the key to doing well out there. My Bergara will be sitting out this weekend NRL match while my Ruger Target 10/22 will get used. I have neglected it all last year so need to see how it does since distance is under a 100 yd for this month COF and do know the limitation.

Agree to disagree correct. I have seen every make of bolts have feeding issues at matches. Agree just because you get a quality made rifle doesn’t make up for skills and practice. I’ve only done this 2 years so I still suck. Lol
Now I shot pistol silhouettes competitively for 20+ years and with an xp100 average was 38x40 full scale and 1/2 scale was 36x40, open sights but that sport has died slowly over the years and everyone wants something different now.

Thanks

Kidd built but put in a victor stock

20” stainless bull barrel.

I know of one 10/22 shooter in my area but I only shoot locally. I see mostly cz 457 tricked out,1 rimx, several vudoos, bergara b14. I don’t want people to think I don’t like the gun it’s a great rifle and with me being a lefty it’s great. I might give it another try who knows.
Thanks

Lefty here, so you not alone. One thing I actually done to my 10/22 is to install a ambidextrous rotary trigger. It will make moving around on props while shooting with safety on mind at all time. I do like my lefty Bergara over anything else I have.

I have the Kidd 3/3 two stage trigger. Yes , my bergara is my favorite so far. Just put a trigger tech special in it. It runs in a PDC chassis with a razor gen 2. It loves sk long range.
Thanks

I’m just order some different lots of eley semiauto precision benchrest to try in it. I’ve tried most everything else. The eley flat nose does feed reliably 100%. So we will see how that stuff does. My buddy’s Kidd shoots the federal gold medal match well but I can’t find any to try.
