I was in my local Garts sporting goods store and noticed a brick of .22 ammo called Peters. It was like $8 a brick so I figured it was just some bulk stuff, but does anybody know anything about this ammo I have never heard of it before.

Peters

Goob312,

"Peters" is an old and very respected name in the ammunition manufacturing industry...! ! Their plant was located in Kings Mill, Ohio. :)

During WWII they were a major supplier to the US armed forces for all sorts of small arms ammo, from .22LR through .50BMG...! !
Somewhere along the line, in about 1934, they were absorbed by Remington [DuPont], and hence the "R-P" headstamp on today's Remington centerfire ammunition...! ! :)

One doesn't see much of the Peters brand these days...! ! :(

Do a Google Search for "Peters" or "Peters Ammunition" and you will turn-up the history of this great company. Some information can be found on the Remington Site under History...! ! ;)

Hope this helps...! ! :)

heh,

I just found this box, of Peters at my local store. I picked up a brick, since it was relatively cheap (9.99), and im still searching for the ammo my gun actually likes. I noticed one thing on the box, i never actually 'noticed' on any other kinds of ammo.

"Non-fouling Lubricated Bullet" - "Chambers easily, and minimizes lead buildup. Lubricated round nose bullet for positive feeding - even in autoloaders." Im sure most are the same, I just took notice, and decided to check it out.

Stats:

40 grains
Velocity: (M)1255fps (100)1017
Energy: (M)140ft-lbs (100)92
3.6" drop at 100yds

I hadnt heard much about this ammo. It definetly is a NEW (as in not 1963 ammo) product put out by Remington. Ill shoot the brick and letcha know how it goes.

A while ago I saw Peters 22LR ammo at my local Big5 sporting store after seeing their ad for bricks for ten buck each. I called Remington to find out why Peters in not listed in their current catalog. I was told that Remington no longer manufactures Peters.

On the same visit to Big5 I noticed that the Remington 597 they had on dispaly (the manager swore that it was less than a week on display) came with a plastic magazine. I told the manager that the 597 in the Remington's 2004 catalog is described as having a metal magazine. He showed me the metal magazine that was available as an accessory. I called Remington about the plastic magazine. I was informed that the 597s have been equipped with metal magazines for at least the past three years.

It appears Big5 may be carrying old stock Peters 22LR ammo and Remington 597s with plastic magazines.

Peters is a regular stock item at Gander Mountain. The Gander mountain I
go to in Mentor Ohio has a lot of it. I bought a couple of boxes to see how
it would shoot. Although every round went off it was not anything special
in my rifles as far as accuracy go's.

The Peters 22lr that I bought from GiJoes (Lynnwood, WA) was stamped on the casing the same way the remington bulk that I also bought. In my Marlin 925, it performed quite well. I wish that I had bought more, since the day I got it there was a sale, $.60 a box...
