Only hit 113 degrees. Shot 40 seconds above my average (:-()

Not the best day for a match but I dredged through it. I thought I took all the precautions, including drinking plenty of water and Gatorade. I even had a Chilly Vest = Ice Vest, three Chilly clothes and lots of ice.

Still didn't help my shooting the Steel Challenge today. I shot 40 seconds slower than my average time. I was cramping up so bad on the last two stages I almost gave up but like an idiot I kept going, heck Smoke & Hope is the last stage and no matter what it's a fun way to go out.

Even the Match Director caught up to me going into the last stage and asked if I was alright. I lied.

When I got home I almost passed out getting out of the car. I started falling down but caught myself and stayed up until I could barely walk. I left my gun and everything in the car, made it to my chair and started drinking lots of electrolytes.

Another match next week but it's only supposed to be 103, ha ha.

AZ. Go to the drug store and get a bottle of the tablets you take for heat exhaustion. I used to wash windows on houses in the heat of the summer and these tablets made a world of difference.
I bet they would help you in addition to your other precautions
Thanks. I'll definitely give that a try.
The old days, I worked a shovel, sledge and 50 pound poke bar. On an el jay cone crusher in mesa.
No a/c around. Take salt tabs and plenty water. Biggest issue is now we all live, drive, work in a/c here.
So that’s what the body gets used to. Maybe spend more time everyday in the sun and build up heat tolerance.
but, in reality, it’s hotter that balls out here during summer.
many years ago in the 80’s we used to shoot comps at night. Over at the national guard armory. Also usery pass range.
Please be very careful, heat exhaustion can get you before you know it at any age. The heat index was 105 here today, my range buddy and I left the range @ 11:00 am this morning after a couple of hours due to the rising heat & humidity. My heart meds/blood thinners work on me in the heat.

I probably shot with you at both the National Guard Armory with Cactus and Usery Pass with Rio Salado. They were fun matches.

I now only shoot .22s so USPSA is out and I can't manage my walker on all the rocks at Rio. Ben Avery is good for me. Phoenix Rod & Gun has that hill between stages and I can't manage walking up it.

I'm glad we have two clubs that shoot Steel Challenge and I practice most times at Shooter's World indoor range in Peoria.

I’ll bet that’s why I don’t do well in the heat anymore. Blood thinners, I’m on Xarelto. I’ve had two attacks of Multiple PE’s in all 5 lung lobes. (Including lingula).
So I’m on it for life.

Then you musta also shot with Brian and Robbie out at usery? ( Brian Enos and Rob Leatham ).
no, I was not any competition to them. I was
Way better! Ha ha ha

I still use Brian’s slide glide lube on my AR’s, 1911’s and now my Sa-35.
Yes. Shot with both and I remember when Robbie first started shooting with Cactus. Rio didn't even exist them. That was in the 70s. Brian's book is still a must read.

You probably don't remember me but I'm Steven Bressan. I don't think I missed a match at Cactus for 10 years. Started with Rio when they began shooting there and made the trip from West Phoenix every Tuesday and the second Sunday of each month. Lots of good memories.

Have had at least 6 heat strokes and passed out at least 20 times from heat exhaustion from working in the boiler and engine room of US Navy ships over the years. You know that you're alive when you wake up in a stainless steel tub filled with ice and half a dozen corpsmen are pushing you back in screaming about your body core temp. Will not even discuss thermometers sticking out of all your orifices, all of them, what the ***. While they may have been trying to save my life I might have slugged one or 2 pecker checkers or so.

Retired from the Navy 27 years ago and in December finally went in to see a SVO, I am not no sick bay commando **** it. Got turned down by the VA for multiple disabilities including pins and screws holding my body together from the Iranian hostage Crisis Situation. Already drawing my pension and they gave me 10% which is now tax free. Big whoop, but it does help. All the damage to my body is just mine to deal with. No regrets.

Then again I can go to the VA. Or go to Mayo Clinic where I work for the last 22 years. Duh....

Has been in the 70's here in the frozen tundra up until now, and heading into the 90's with high humidity as well. Watched my youngest son at Alex shoot the MN ATA State shoot at the age of 14 to be the class RU. Before there were all the subclasses for Jrs. Ambulances were taking the trappers to the ED as the temps and heat exhaustion were breaking into the 100 plus territory, and high humidity I am sure a sling monitor would put it much higher. A man has to know his to know his limitations and I sure know mine.

Mayo Clinic sent me to the Az. campus a few years ago in January and they had the first hard freeze in years. They will not let me back there now for some reason. The Apache Trail is not what it was in the 70's up through the Superstition Mountains. But when you take the rental back they will charge you extra to clean it up LOL.

It's been a bit cooler here. 104, 106,107, 107, 108, and dropped back to 105 yesterday. I spent most of yesterday outside but managed for a large part of it to be in shade. I drank around 80 ounces of fluids yesterday but was still seriously pooped by late afternoon. I gave up and got under AC and drank another 20 ounces. No shooting involved as the wind just keeps on blowing. If the forecast is right Mother Nature is about over her temper tantrum with only 100 forecast for today and then back into normal mid to high 90's for the rest of the week. Now if the wind will slack off some I can post about my shooting day. (y)

I prob should remember, but I can’t even remember the guys I used to go there with. I can’t remember ship, I can’t remember shooting at usery after it became rio, but, maybe I did and just didn’t pay attention. Until you wrote that I even forgot it was CACTUS league matches.
