Anyone with a 9.5" Single Six ? How awkward is it to handle and shoot with ONE hand ? Thanks, Jerry

IMO, the factory plowhandle grip is too small for that muzzle heavy gun. All that barrel with a light aluminum grip frame . . . well, the balance isn't what it could be. If they made one in stainless with a stainless grip frame, maybe the balance would come back to the hand a little bit.

I've used non-cowboy style grips to make mine easier to shoot. Like the Pachmayrs and Herretts shown below. Hogue makes some oversize grips as well, but I haven't tried them.

Yep, non-cowboy grips look a bit dorky, but the benefit to shooting better outweighs the looks for me.

A few months ago my 15-year-old granddaughter asked me to teach her to shoot. Long story I won't go into here, but her interest in shooting was, and is, more about self-defense than "fun" plinking, and she has her reasons. She is a very smart and level-headed girl for her age and I understand her concerns, so after considerable discussion I was glad to get her started. Since I think the best caliber for a young shooter to start with is .22 LR, I got out a few of my .22's, explained the differences and let her pick which one to start with. To my surprise, she picked the Single-Six with the 9 1/2" barrel. She has done very well with it, mostly shooting two-handed, but she has also done fine one handed and non-dominant one-handed. We have since expanded her shooting to other guns and calibers, but that single-six is still her favorite. So, anyway, even with a new shooter, it's possible to shoot a 9 1/2" barrel revolver one-handed just fine.

I love it and don't find it to be unwieldy at all.

A 9 1/2" Single Six was at the top of my To Buy list until my eyesight started to get worse to the point where even the long sight radius would not have helped me. What I liked about the 9 1/2" Single Six is the barrel is still not overly heavy like a Ruger MKII 10" , I actually shoot the shorter barrels MKIIs better as they stay right on target for me.

Although I shoot two handed mostly these days I used to shoot my 5 1/2" MKII and Smith 41 one handed but never have the 10" MKII. Shooting a 9 1/2" Single Six one handed would probably not be too difficult if one is already proficient in one hand shooting.

Thank you for your comments. I hope all of you had a good Christmas. I have not been to any gun shops as of yet. I will try to hit the big city and go to some pawn shops to see what they have. There are a few on GB but I am not that big a fan of them. I can not hold an XR3 grip frame or a Dragoon for that matter with out Herretts oversized grips on it. Arthritis has not treated me well. Again thank you. Jerry

Here is mine wearing Hogue target grips. Handles a lot better one handed and two handed with these versus the factory walnut grips. Super accurate and fun to plink with.

I shoot my 9.5 a lot less than my shorter single sixes.

2023 could be the year to correct that situation. :D
