Seen an old weaver tip-off mount. It looks like you would have to unscrew the eye piece to slide it into the mount. Is this correct? Do the older scopes have the occular lens inside the tube behind the eyepiece, or were they not gas charged in those days.

I just wanna be educated...

They were not gas charged and some mounts required removing the widage and elevation turrets. I have a Weaver J4 with a 1 piece mount that would require turret removal to change the mount. I don't think I'll be changing it to soon.
