I have just replaced the cross hairs on an old tube scope , the existing cross was so fine it blurred due to my vision not being so good . having removed the occular lens I cleaned the small brass ring which holds the hairs with a soldering iron ,this then reveals four lines cut into the brass to retain the hairs , originaly this must have been very fine wire . Its easy to replace using two lengths of human hair and four clothes pegs . Simply hold the hair between two pegs and hang it over the ring , then apply a dot of epoxy glue allow to set and cut off the excess hair . I did try computer wire but this was not fine enough .
