Kinda spur of the moment I stopped in to Sports Authority and found this scope for $150 in silver. I like the scope, but could I do better at this price range?

Ive got a couple of them on deer rifles, they are good scopes and well worth the price. It will be a fine scope for general hunting and shooting on a 10-22.

The same price range in Leopold didn't seem as bright or crisp. I have Nikon photographic equip and have always been impressed with their glass, guess that is what swayed me so easily :bthumb:

Is it a Prostaff or Buckmaster? Nikon makes a 3-9x40 in silver in both those lines. If it's the Buckmaster you made out like a bandit. If it's the Prostaff that's about the going price.

I thought the same thing, I have a 3X9 Buckmaster on my HM2 and like it alot.

I have a 3x9x40 Nikon prostaff on my Sako Quad and have been very impressed with the scope. Strangely, I like it even better than a Leupold VX-1 that I had on it previously. The only concern is that it doesn't have adjustable parallex, and I refer a little higher magnification on the top end, but it's still a great scope IMHO.:bthumb:

I have a prostaff 2-7 on my CZ452 American and LOVE it. The only thing I would say is that mine is technically a "shotgun" scope and parallax is set at 75 yards the 3-9 is 100 or 150 I don't remember??? You may consider having the parallax adjusted to something more appropriate to a 22.

Side by side I liked the leopuld rifleman a little better so I bought that for my 6mm, but they were really close in my opinion. The prostaff is a sweet scope for the money.

Probably the only thing missing will be adjustable parallax. I went with the Weaver RV9 for that reason. 3-9x32 with AO for under $200.

Its the Prostaff. Would I do better with the Mueller because of the AO?

As much as I like my Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40, I still prefer a scope with AO, and also a little more magnification, such as 4x12 or 4x16. Just depends on the intended use of the rifle and personal opinion. I've never owned a Mueller, but they get many positive comments on this forum.

For $189 you can buy a Clearidge Ultra RM 3-9X 32mm AO scope. A review comparing Clearidge to Leupold EFR is here. The nice things about the Clearidge is the resettable target style knobs and a zoom ring you can turn. All Leupold zoom rings that I have handled can be classified as being stiff to almost impossible. Obviously you don't want the zoom ring to turn by accident, but Leupold takes this to the extreme IMO. BTW, Leupold is not the only stiff zoom ring collar out their.

Clearidge is made by Light Optical Works (LOW) for Clearidge. The Nikons are made in the Philippines, either Asia Optical owned ScoPro or Philippine Kenko plants. The LOW scopes are considered the top Asian riflescope makers, although Asia Optical Japan (maker of Sightron) would surely disagree. LOW is to Asia, as Leupold is to North America, as Zeiss is to Europe, the guys to beat, and the gold standard for each geographic area.

The Philippine scopes are good solid scopes, examples being the Bushnell Legends and Nikon Buckmasters, and higher end Philippine Simmons (older WTC and Aetec scopes).

Well after taking out to the range and adjusting it for 50yds instead of the 100 that it came out of the box at, it did very nicely!

I think I will end up keeping this.


And the instructions for adjusting parallax worked perfectly.

I am very happy with my Prostaff. I just got a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40 for 199.95 at SWFA . They only have silver. Looks great with your stainless.
